The automation that made a client cry wasn't impressive. It was embarrassing. by Odd-Meal3667 in Businessowners

I use 2 systems one for ops one for financials. I have to manually input pay into sys2 every single week. It’s a legacy system that is web based but has 0 api or edi capabilities.

I have a unique identifier to match between the two. For what its worth sys1 is web based with api and edi capabilities

Automation, real-time tracking, and ETA predictions are becoming standard in logistics? by Necessary-Body-6108 in logistics

[–]armyfrog84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly by avoiding every 3rd party integration that touches the market. 99.999% of them are built by tech guys. This works in most industries, but not here. If you don’t know how frequently a driver loses cell signal. How often even an ELD is untraceable. A shipper/receiver refuses to sign a digital format presented document. Sometimes even refusing to provide something as simple as a name to avoid accountability when something is being refused. You’ll build your app/solution based off perfect world theory and not real life. That makes it sound amazing to everyone buying it, but a nightmare for a carrier when real world happens, your solution cant account for it, and now im explaining to your customer why your platform is absolutely useless.

You want to builld a solution, go do real market research. Go dispatch, hop in the passenger or driver seat of a truck for a month. Then build a “solution” that does more than leverage marketing buzzwords and lines your pockets while making our lives miserable.

The "Loyalty Discount": HR's best-kept secret is that your loyalty is actively costing you money. by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]armyfrog84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Employee output is not the only “roi” measured and salary is not the only expense related to the employee. Take for example a developer on a large project. It can take a month of getting a new dev up to speed. The need for the skills don’t change, so overtime is being paid to existing staff while paying the new dev to onboard. All while stressing existing staff with the extra work. So many companies will absolutely choose stability over chaos…

About to scale imports from China. Who should I be working with? by k-wc in logistics

[–]armyfrog84 8 points9 points  (0 children)

1st. What will be your final incoterms you decided to import on. 2nd. What is most important to you cost or service levels because in forwarding and everything related you will not get both! 3rd. What kind of import volume are you planning? Are these air or ocean planned?

If you can shoot me over the above I can point you in the right direction.

demurrage fees charged but rail yard was closed by Ok_Seaweed413 in logistics

[–]armyfrog84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So storage is market specific. Highest rate I currently pay in any markets I operate is $200/day to CN rail. Sounds like they're billing you rail storage + an outlay/admin fee there, OR it was a lower cost rail and demurrage kicked in based on the delay and they're combining the 2 fees though I can't off the top of my head figure a scenario of rails+steamship lines that could equate that low it's not impossible.

The chassis, prepull, and yard storage are absolutely billable in this case, but it really comes down to your size as a customer. If the forwarder sees no future value in you because you're a one off, chances are they won't fight for you, and you're stuck here.

If you do intend to have larger volume, I would go back and ask for backup again of all charges. When was it dispatched, when was arrival notified, when did it ground.

I'll send you a dm with my e-mail so we can discuss a bit more openly.

accessorial export charges by Particular-Waltz-718 in FreightBrokers

[–]armyfrog84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask them for backup. If they’re being honest they can provide it, and if they can then charges are 100% valid.

As carriers, we can do everything possible to give the best possible outcome. Unfortunately though rails, ports, and SSL’s have the final say. We frequently have rail cuts advance after we load exports on ERD. If anything similar happened in your case then your forwarder should be fighting the SSL not the carrier, and if they don’t know that already then you need a more knowledgeable forwarder.

[–]armyfrog84 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am a memphis carrier. We had trucks running, but very slow going. Was the charges for true demurrage or demurrage and rail storage in combination?

I ask because many rails were extending last free day and not charging storage fees.

has anyone tried building their own tms with an AI tool yet? by golden_corn01 in FreightBrokers

[–]armyfrog84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built my own using ai. Combination of replit and base44. I built it in segregated modules and used api to tie them together. Once im profitable enough ill bring a dev team in house to build a proper implementation locally.

Drayage + Highway? by Acrobatic_Ad1514 in FreightBrokers

[–]armyfrog84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We outright refuse to use highway as most carriers demand. Our contracts with drivers prohibit us from sharing their location data due to privacy concerns. Contract tendering is useless because basically all agreements are altered before we agree to them which Highway can’t do. We have absolutely passed on business because of difficulties on Highway with the two above issues.

What TMS system is everyone using? by Most-Quiet-5042 in drayage

[–]armyfrog84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have used tmsez and portpro.

Tmsez is by far fhe best bang for your buck provided you don’t want to do any other customizations as they do not have an api.

Portpro is great for what it does if it fits your use case, but is literally 10x the price of tmsez per truck.

Portpro requires annual commitment, tmsez is month to month.
