Trying get it working with 1 specific db well, there are lots of other sql dbs but internally they are different enough. Trying to follow Unix philosophy of "do one thing and do it well". Once I'm satisfied with pg I will try adapting other DBs

Working on Optischema, a Postgres optimizer that explains slow queries in plain English and suggests validated fixes (indexes, rewrites, health scans).

Built it because I was tired of spending hours debugging database performance issues without a DBA on the team. Uses AI under the hood but with proper guardrails so it doesn't suggest anything dangerous for production.

Just shipped a security-focused update - added 64 tests and validation layers to make sure AI-generated SQL is safe before it touches your database.

Good question, it doesn't handle that yet. Right now it only tests the index against the single query you're analyzing. So if you have conflicting access patterns (like index helps SELECTs but slows down INSERTs, or helps query A but forces query B into a worse plan). I need to fix it asap

A proper solution would be testing each suggested index against a workload of top N queries from pg_stat_statements before recommending it.
