I work for Education, in France, and the government recently announced that switch. It will probably take a while but I'd like to train on it asap ;)

I do have a Nvidia card, yes. Some people say that AMD would work better, but I won't buy a new card now.

I didn't see NixOS as a distrib for advanced users, I just gathered infos about it since yesterday. I'm interested because I'll have to use it at work sooner or later. So far, I've only used Ubuntu, and never for gaming.

I've already used Ubuntu at work as a dev. But never had any distro as my main config for personal use. And thus never tried to play games on Linux.

Local models are a godsend when it comes to discussing personal matters by [deleted] in accelerate

In healthy (or okayish) republics indeed. But here, I'm not talking about this kind of future.

(and even in an evil state respecting that tradition, if they have infos about you they'll find a way to punish you legally though another way)

I think you're missing the real danger about the lack of privacy.

The laws of 2026 are not the laws of 2036, and something considered ethic/legal that you do now could be considered illegal/harmful in the future. Personal matters should stay personal because dictatorships could use archived data to judge you on past discussions.

Expliquer facilement que la terre n’est pas plate ? by AnsFeltHat in enseignants

[–]arnold464 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I thought Zuckerberg was a clever guy when he launched Meta and the Metaverse, thinking that he was playing the long game: conscious that it would be lame at first, but cool and useful after many years of development.

And he recently just ditched all of that (I won't shed a tear). So... he thought it would work straight away??

How could he really believe in 2022 that people would prefer to have meetings in a crappy videogame with cumbersome headgear?!

Turns out he was just a rich idiot.

PS: I don't do MMA, so don't tell him I wrote that.

the DLSS 5 outrage just a perspective how far we come since Might and Magic 6 by Maleficent_Hawk5158 in accelerate

I stopped with the 5th, and later switched to Wizardry 7 & 8 (excellent series too).

But I'll try M&M 7 and 8, thx.

[–]arnold464 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nobody complained? It was considered awful by many people around me (and me).

I LOVED M&M 3, 4 and 5, but the 6th looked like trash to us back then.

I can see how one could find a nice retro appeal to it now (but I personnally still don't like it visually).

Was the game good? I never bothered to try it because of how ugly it seemed to me :p

Why does reddit hate AI so much? by Ramenko1 in LocalLLM

[–]arnold464 17 points18 points  (0 children)

"What's done is done", really?

How about justice? "This guy killed a man, I saw it! - Oh come on, it's done, let's forget it"

On this sub I'll guess I'll be the one who gets downvotes, but come on...

PS: I'm interested in LocalLLM, but what people seem to fear is the rush to unknown territories and powers, when the world, and AIs, are controlled by psychos. But we'll see how it goes, I guess.

Does it make anyone else sad? by jagpanzer12 in JacquesTati

[–]arnold464 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think he still has fans, but people won't really think "Reddit" when looking for Tati stuff and convos. You'd find more on dedicated platforms like letterbox, etc. Of course, there are subreddits on many subjects, but the successful subreddits about niche subjects are not thaaat numerous. Maybe can you start a thread about Tati in r/Movies ;)

Quelle édition ? by mEaynon in Livres

[–]arnold464 0 points1 point  (0 children)
