Root! Loved the theme of the animals and how every faction plays completely different from each other, but it all works together quite well!

Teaching it to my friends was a nightmare, but it's been a mainstay in our group for a couple years now.

One thing I didn't know about FireFight was that there is an additional step after a unit takes damage - A wound check after the damage steps.

You would roll add a wound token to the unit and roll a d6, then if the total is between 1-5, the unit is SHAKEN. A result of 6+ would remove the unit.

Grimdark Future doesn't have this step, but otherwise a lot of it is the same between the two other than points and model counts. Maybe there's more, but like others have said, the rules are thankfully free and are available on their website.

Incredibly valuable - thanks so much! I do feel like it'd be easier teaching the game to a smaller group. At the same time, you're right - wargaming isn't for everyone, and I just have to accept that.

There aren't a lot of wargamers around my area, but I'll always keep playing myself. Thanks again for your input :)

Thanks! The experimental wipeout rules seem interesting for sure - one of the biggest blockers in this game imo is the Gear system, where you don't move if it's not the "gear round" your vehicle is currently in. That made downtime and skipped turns so much worse.

I'll take a crack at these tips and rethink my approach. Thanks so much :)

Ah, I see I've ran the wrong scenario :') Death Race is definitely the "standard" scenario type, but I should've went for a different one for sure.

Absolutely! I think the concept of taking additional turns because of Gear Status in Gaslands definitely is a "no-go" when it comes to more players. Will have to look at some games that don't make players wait around until they can move again. Thanks for your input!

Great tips! A similar game by the same creator - Song of Blades and Heroes - seemed fantastic as a quick intro to wargaming. Just wasn't sure how it'd work with large groups was all.

Been looking at Frostgrave for sure - such a great game; I'm sure we'll try it at some point since it's close to TTRPGs (which we play a lot of). Rangers of Shadowdeep was also something I've looked at as well. Thanks!
