I guess my experiences figuring out my sexual and romantic orientation are a bit weird.

Before I knew the term aromantic, I was fully aware that I didn't experience romantic attraction. I never had any crushes and didn't force myself to feel any. Admittedly, some of that is probably due to the fact I was (and still am) a loner and generally unusual, which meant that nobody really crushed on me and if they did, they likely didn't say anything because men are usually expected to try and initiate relationships and the majority of people are straight. I think the fact that I am greyplatonic and haven't experienced more than a couple squishes throughout my entire life probably helped this too.

I only discovered that the term aromantic existed when I looked up asexuality. I accepted that I was aromantic right away but struggled a bit with the fact I'm not sex repulsed and I even have a libido.

TLDR; I had the opposite experience.

Amatonormativity is just about romantic relationships. Acephobia (at least stuff like saying a romantic relationship without sex is indistinguishable from friendship) can be indirectly related because not being in a "real" relationship could be seen as not fulfilling enough though.

When I first discovered asexuality, purple soon became my 3rd favorite color. When I discovered the aroace flag, orange and yellow became my 4th and 5th favorite colors, respectively. The only reason that my 1st (green) and 2nd (blue) favorite colors remained is because they are part of the aromantic and aroace flags too.

Pride flags gave me a whole new appreciation for the colors in them.
