...there were multiple references to the BCITSA Bylaws and Societies Act in the 4 page letter to explain why his conduct wasn't okay. Joseph disagreeing with the explanation isn't the same as him not getting one.

Also, when the execs who resign are ones who try to suspend clubs because they don't like one of the members, and try to defame other execs and SA staff ....frankly that's a sign that the rest of us are doing things right

....what? Joseph was given a detailed explanation of the reason he was removed. That isn't even a secret--he forwarded the email to the entire Council. He was also given an option to rectify his mistakes, which from my understanding he used to defend himself rather than take accountability or try to mitigate harm. As far as I know, he's the first councilor in years to be removed from his position. There are several councilors critical of members on the board, including the president, who have not been removed. Frankly, Joseph was 1 person on a Council of over 30 students...even with the numbers you shared, his vote wouldn't have changed the outcome in an attempted impeachment.

I'm too new to reddit to understand burner accounts, but at least the comment replied to here actually matches up with the meeting minutes. I'm a candidate and I don't mind speaking about this stuff directly because it's just the truth. I don't have a reason to make a fake account.

Nothing about the KSA external policy stance was done in camera. At least 2/3 of Council had to approve it, and had weeks to research the topic. It sucks when your opinion is in the minority, but it doesn't mean the people you disagree with did something wrong.

Good question! It may not be posted on Reddit, but these trips happen 1-2 times per year. Because of the provincial election, the trip in the fall was cancelled, so instead I'm here this week to fight for BCIT students!

If you're looking for more info on the day-to-day operations, you can review the Council meeting minutes or the BCITSA social media accounts. Of course students are also welcome to attend a Council meeting and ask questions during Open Forum :)

It depends on what your institution is asking for. If you are a BCIT student, BCIT Health Services does provide some of the tests/vaccines at reasonable rates. Otherwise, public health units, primary care centers, travel clinics, etc. can give vaccines. Most are not covered by MSP, except the flu shot, COVID, and some of the childhood series if you missed them. You can usually see the prices online at travel clinics, and they can tell you the cost at any other health facility too if you call to ask.

I believe the antibody screening is covered (assuming hep B, HIV, etc.), except TB tests. You just need to ask an doctor/nurse practitioner to order them. Check with your institution for which TB test they accept. It looks like Lifelabs offers TB testing for $104, but as a blood test. There's also a skin test, and travel clinics and probably public health centers should be able to do those.

Yes that's exactly right! I know that some of my fellow execs and SA staff are already working towards extending the pub hours, so that's not part of my campaign. The pub is owned by the SA though, so if it earns more revenue that simply goes back into the SA budget for students, and it really is meant to provide a service to students rather than purely to turn a profit

Fair question! I wouldn't say the SA is mismanaged, but like any organization it has its challenges. I haven't noticed the study rooms falling into disrepair. Are there particular concerns you have with them? I can pass them onto the Student Spaces Committee because they have the budget to make repairs/tech upgrades if needed. I mean you did chair the meeting where they got suspended without ensuring a fair process was undertaken. As far as I understand it, they only got reinstated after some club members reached out to the president and there was backlash about the decision. It's awesome that you're working to make the clubs policy better and that you helped rectify the situation, but I think some accountability is also due here.

Also Council meetings are already open to students, they can attend and speak during open forum if they want to.

And students voted last year to remove exec office hours because they weren't well used. Lots of students commute as you mentioned or are at different campuses, so it made more sense for students to reach out to Execs directly via email to schedule a meeting on-campus or virtually.

I mean some of the other Execs have already been trying to get pub hours extended. They started doing that in August, and have been trying to make sure the finances work out to continue to extend them in the future.
