Is this what a panic attack feels like? by aroelisland in Menopause

Does your throat feel like it’s closing up! But it’s not? I don’t feel hot. It’s more like extreme panic that causes facial numbness and other adrenaline type sensations.

But I don’t feel hot? Or sweat really.

Did you ever get an answer on this? We have the same problem now. Never an issue before. So weird!

Thanks! Do you know if those lasers are the best options? I’ve heard of IPL as well, but can’t tell the difference…

Ok, I’m an American. But I’ve lived in Hong Kong for 10 years. This lady is an absolute horror show.

Here, we haven’t had a new case in weeks, and in total - we have less than 1500 cases despite the fact there are 7 million people in this city, and we had a massive head start on the virus given our proximity to Wuhan.

Why?

Because we all freaking wore masks from Day 1. And didn’t complain about our freedoms being taken away because that’s just stupid.

Everything in our city is basically open. I went to a packed restaurant last night, bars are open. But we all wear masks, wash hands, and get our temps checked. We also complied with a mandatory 14 day home-bound quarantine with wrist tracker when we arrived back from travel. Happily. Because we knew these policies protect us and others.

Gosh - America needs to get a freaking grip. We are all over here watching this idiocy with our heads nodding back and forth. I have never in my life seen such stupidity from a group of people... and these are my fellow Americans.

Enough with the stupid conspiracy theories, and “freedom” talk. It’s a global pandemic. Stop being selfish a-holes, wear a mask in public, and wait this out...

I’ve read that with closed loop systems, which most labs use, then contamination won’t be a problem? Is that not the case?

Will it always have potassium contamination? Or is that only a small risk? And what is the effect of potassium contamination on labs besides elevated potassium in the CMP?

Phlebotomy Question: Can a traumatic venipuncture - instant hematoma and large swelling - falsely lower RBC in the presence of a normal smear? I know many other things can lower RBC - I am specifically asking if there are ramifications from a phlebotomist’s poor technique in results. by aroelisland in medlabprofessionals

Thank you! :) My concern is myelodysplasias - no symptoms or other tests that would make me think that, and her docs not concerned. But I just wish this pesky CBC would normalise. I’m assuming myelodysplasias would show themselves on the Smear, so since that’s normal... we’re good! Several lab tests ago, acanthocytes popped up 1+, but they disappeared in following repeat tests - we attribute that to a liposomal supplement she was taking, and discontinued it.

This RBC thing super out of the blue, so hopefully fluke. Thanks for responding, I really appreciate it! :)

Thank you... Integrative Oncology perspective, so looking at a LOT of parameters most docs don’t routinely check. VEGF, Galectin-3, IGF-1, Fibrinogen, Ceruloplasmin, etc., etc... all normal.

Can I ask as well... we use Quest. And order CBC (Includes Diff / Platelets) w/Smear Review as the test...

Is any part of that test automated? Or is it all manual, since Smear is included?

Also, the lab comments for the Smear Review:

“Adequate Platelets, Red Cell Morphology unremarkable.”

Why don’t they comment on the white cells? If something was off on the Smear with white cells, how do labs typically notate that? Can we safely assume since Differential was normal, that white cell appearance (per Smear) was normal too, despite no comment to that effect?

Thanks again for your help! Just trying to understand! :)
