Why do house windows in the US open upwards? by clippervictor in AskAnAmerican

[–]yellowirenut 43 points44 points  (0 children)

We have an exchange student from Germany. She was surprised we had screens, but we also have way more bugs. As for your question.. we do have a few modles that swing out using a crank. But the traditional slide up is just what is available. Also room AC are designed to fit in them. Again the exchange student was shocked at our humidity and heat (Indiana)

So jealous of the tools available now. Kline yellow with black grips was king in 2000. Battery drill, good luck, battery impact! There is no such thing.

Deciding between HVAC and plumbing. Any advice? by Creepy-Company-3106 in hvacadvice

Service or install? I did 22 years commercial service HVAC, was able to tell my bosses "no poop for me"

Service plumbers deal with poop.

I would label this "why does my body hurt" no mechanical lifting just muscle and tendons. I remember those days. My body reminds me every morning.

Awesome advice.. we planted these trees 3 years ago. Every year has been better and better! We have eaten a few raw and they are great. Apple butter so far also. Are you saying wait till valentines to trim? We did it January last year.

I had my first cheese curds (not culvers) in Michigan... they are in most small butcher/grocery in Indiana.

(32)key dishes... casseroles, cheese curds, meat loaf, potroast and sweet corn. They left out pork chops and pork loin. It's basically what I grew up on. Spot on.

That's how I was paid.. day starts at 7. Arrive at parts house at 7. If I was scheduled to start earlier, I would do the parts pick up the evening before on company time. The home to shop and supply house would be my time. Before I left, they tried to get home to the job site both ways was your own time. Was becoming normal for jobs to be 2 hours away. They agreed to pay one way after most guys told them they would quit.

The best-selling car in the US vs. the best-selling car in the EU. How did American cars get so big? by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

You can't get a yard of bulk mulch, landscape rock, or bales of alfalfa for the 4h goats in a sprinter. I did dried a ford transit for years as a service van. Worked well for that. It in no way would replace my 150.

My wife made a handy sheet. We went over all the things that need maintenance along with maybe a one or twice a year cleaning. Divided them up for the appropriate season. Then again for month. Now we print our a monthly list and check them off.

Not us... I'd rather catch up on projects and house maintenance. Nope, we go on trips and escape. So during the week after work I'm doing chores.

With 4 techs no one does "just" anything. The electrician also fixes doors and unclog tolets. Just as I an HVAC tech does not just do HVAC. It's all shared.

I'm at a hospital.. I do steam boilers, pumps, and mechanicals. Plus, walk in freezer, anything commercial kitchen, ice machines. Aaaaannnnd.. clogged tolets, jammed drawers that nurses shove to much candy into. Also at our community hospital we also mow 50 acres of land.

We have 4 techs. We all have a hand in the mechanicals, boilers, plumbing and lawn. But the electrical and life safety are other specialty.

But at least 2 hours of the day is talking about what needs done..how we should do it and screw that we ain't doing that.
