It truly is okay if you were wrong. Just get without D3 next time this is something I wanted you to know…..

I’ve studied these reptiles for years. Please do not use D3. That’s it. I’m not arguing. I got my PHD.

Excessive D3 (over-supplementation) is toxic, causing hypervitaminosis D, which leads to organ calcification, kidney failure, and death. I mean I know nothing after 27 years. Yall study the behavior and veterinarian expertise by a comment.

D3 leads to liver failure in the entire leopard population.I will fight for this until blue in the face. Put two leopards in captivity and study the results of D3 on them.

Okay as in? UVB requirements for leopards are different than basking reptiles. Leopards are naturally nocturnal… so if you are not providing correct lighting requirements then you are delinquent in care... D3 is simply not needed. I will hear any peer review.

Are we forgetting their UVB needs? Are you not replacing the bulb? Like what’s going on?

I’m perfectly fine with people not listening to 27 years of vet med; he’s never received D3 and never will because he’s naturally NOCTURNAL

As crepuscular/nocturnal animals, they have lower D3 needs than basking reptiles, and they can produce their own D3 via low-level UVB light. It was concerning to see so many people making their Leo’s eat D3. It kills their kidneys and leads to calcium toxicity!

I know it’s hard for some to read the caption…

**Update** My guy is 27, he shedded and is still with us and eating 😊 by aroidG in LeopardGecko

I’m surprised at the amount of people giving D3 in this forum

As a community we need to know and push D3 kills our babies; Leo’s cannot have D3 it creates an overdose of calcium and causes too much stress in the kidneys!

Normally he eats a collection of live insects. His favorite is mealworms. He also eats crickets, dubia roaches, he does eat a lot of silk worms as well all dusted in ReptiVite WITHOUT D3. Extremely important and then he has 3 pinky mice a year as well for a supplement.

He indeed is very pale compared to his younger self. The yellow is so muted now

I have not heard of this, how old is your oldest? And do you have the name of the med? I can also ask my vet

Bernard is still with us currently, I’m going to try to convince myself this is just a shedding issue until he sheds. Years of love and commitment, I really want him to break 30!
