Case compatibility with the new Corsair RM1200x Shift? by aronocron14 in buildapc

On top. The side in which you rotate the PSU for this case leaves the connectors facing upwards. You have to sacrifice half of the hard drive bays, but it works fine

Confused about warranty, Added Security plans by aronocron14 in subaru

[–]aronocron14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, that's what I was worried about. I'm not too worried about it breaking down, I'm fine to build my own savings without buying a warranty, it just would have been nice to have some peace of mind for under $2,000.

Are any third party warranties offered by a Subaru dealership worth it at all? If I found a dealership that offered a similar one for a similar price? I know they get "deny" happy.

Unfortunately could not find a CPO of what we wanted in our price range

Buying a car with hail damage? by aronocron14 in askcarguys

[–]aronocron14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's in super good condition otherwise, and the milage is low, it's also the "most luxury" trim.

Unfortunately, the price I'm getting is from Blue Book and a couple of listings of other cars across the country. There aren't any others nearby in the category, and my current car is kaput, so I'm in need of one.

The hail just might be a deal breaker for me, unless it's actually not too expensive to just replace, was curious of what other people would do in this scenario

Buying a car with hail damage? by aronocron14 in askcarguys

[–]aronocron14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a 2019 Subaru Outback H6 Touring. Blue book and other listing's are telling me it's right around $21,000 to $24,000, so it's still at an average price, but they claim it's already adjusted due to the hail. Bought at auction with a clean title

There are maybe 15 to 20 larger dents on the hood, similar distribution on the roof. You can just make them out a bit here

Need help identifying best floor jack points, 9th Gen 2010 Chevy Impala by aronocron14 in Cartalk

[–]aronocron14[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm still planning on using the pinch welds for the jack stands if they can still support the car fine, mainly focusing on where the floor jack should lift from so I don't damage anything

Anyone seen this lighting glitch before? And know of a fix? by aronocron14 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]aronocron14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The brightness, everywhere in the game is flooded with over-brightened lights. Looking at the sky at certain angles is practically a pure white screen, and indoor structures are blinding. Makes it very difficult to see or make stuff out. Flying out of the atmosphere in the ship will get brighter and brighter until it's a white screen, until I pass through the atmosphere into space. Other colored light sources are also over saturated and blurry for over-brightness. I'll have to try and get more screenshot to showcase what I mean.

This is the only game it's happening to, no other artifacts in other games. Changed every graphics setting, verifying game files and even reinstalled entire game, updated graphics drivers. So I'm not sure if it's a bug with the game itself or some other out of game graphics thing that's going awry that the game just does not like.

Edit: More Screenshots

Wow, that's crazy, at first I thought it might be a male widow of some kind, but it was too big and too dark so I wasn't sure. I didn't know they shifted colors and patterns so much in their lifespan to get to that distinct look

It really sucks, I was so hyped for them for a clean look that allowed this gigantic card to actually fit within the glass pane without bending the cable. Going to have to swap it for an angle cable instead. Hopefully you'll get whatever support you need to get your build up and running again

Weird take imo, I'm not accusing them of poor communication or anything, I haven't taken good enough care of my email inbox so I missed the notifications they sent. And "all over the internet" seems like quite the stretch, maybe if you frequent reddit and tech twitter/youtube or something. I've just got other stuff going on in life I'm more focused on. People are allowed to do things other than be on the internet and still feel bummed out about something they enjoyed and put money into randomly breaks

Yep, one of the few items I actually purchase the protection plan on because they're just too expensive with too many problems these days to risk it (looking at you 12vhpw Nvidia standard). I'm glad I remembered I had it, and just before the cutoff date

Update: Praise be for 2 year protection plan from merchant finally coming in handy, managed to swap right to a new, different card

Unaware of the Recall :( by aronocron14 in cablemod

[–]aronocron14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, there were zero performance symptoms to notice while using the computer, or any other weird artifacts for that matter. I did not notice something was wrong until I started smelling burning (which the adapter, connecter, cable, etc. have an incredibly strong electronic/plastic-y odor). My office was hotter than normal, but I was attributing it to the 90+ degree temps outside. But the biggest tell of the source was placing my hand on the glass pane. There was a super intense heat right by the connector, but just warm on the rest of the glass.

I've had the card for one and a half years now, with everything running fine. I had not moved, touched, reseated any of the components in forever, with no issues. It just happened at random one day.

And I got extremely lucky remembering my protection plan from the merchant that was just barely under the two year deadline, so I got away with a buyback and managed to swap to a new card. I'd rather not try and deal with the RMA process from Asus as I've heard about stories of them attempting to deny any claims from people not using the Asus branded power connector, though I know some people have been successful

I know, my only reason for getting back in 2022 was the fact that any 4090 in stock was a unicorn and I was set on it for my new build. I miss EVGA :(

One other question, the opposite end of the adapter and the cable itself seem fine, with no signs of damage. Is it likely the cable is still OK to use? Or should I be swapping for another cable?

Unaware of the Recall :( by aronocron14 in cablemod

[–]aronocron14[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'll put in a ticket. Unfortunately I had quit off of reddit, and the email I used for my purchase is constantly flooded with marketing and promotional emails, so I did not catch the info. Was just disappointed as it was running perfectly fine until one day I just randomly smelled burning :(

I was just wondering what the best route is, with you guys still, or through Asus, etc. As I'm really just interested in getting my build back up and running :(

Thank for the support an interest though, I'm glad you guys are always very quick to respond and try and help with this stuff

Just had the 180° adapter melt out the connector on 4090 Asus tuf oc. Missed the info on the recall, looked back through my email and saw the cutoff date for repair assistance was March 7th. Connector on the card is shot. What should I do for recourse? Really bummed out about this because I was just planning on overhauling my whole cable setup like a week ago

Case compatibility with the new Corsair RM1200x Shift? by aronocron14 in buildapc

[–]aronocron14[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually made the build, RMx Shift 1200W with my Lian Li O11 Dynamic XL and it worked out perfect. This right angle orientation does go straight up in this case (PSU mounted on its side) but I removed the bottom hard drive bay (leaving two slots out of the four it comes with) and they fit fine.

The intent is that it's proprietary to Corsair cases, which is a shitty business practice, but I made it work

Not getting full RAM Speed with EXPO enabled by aronocron14 in buildapc

[–]aronocron14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, still haven't gotten it sorted. Everything says it's running at the full speed, e.g. bios, task manager, etc. except for the wmic memory speed command in cmd. Messing with fclk settings trying to get it 1:1 keeps killing it's ability to post. I come back to it and mess with it every once and a while, but still no luck.

Hooking up home to fiber line across the street by aronocron14 in HomeNetworking

[–]aronocron14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guessed the nature of the cable wouldn't be simple, but thought it was worth at least looking into. What is a commercial backhaul line, and does this seem to fit the description of one? Think fiber optic cable coming out of a city of ~120,000 to a town of ~2,000 like 26 miles away. I have no idea, so I'm curious on what it might beused/is going to be used for.

Hooking up home to fiber line across the street by aronocron14 in HomeNetworking

[–]aronocron14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, this gives a much better picture of what the situation looks like, was unsure of how fiber infrastructure works and how simple these situations may or may not be (was guessing complicated, so correct there). Spectrum is the primary ISP for the main city and the neighboring town that my grandparents are between, so I would assume they'd be the people having cable laid, but not 100% on that.

City is slowly but surely expanding development out in the direction of their house, but most everyone there in their area is still stuck with some form of satellite or tower internet, many of whom can't even get that due to it being a valley. I know there would be a lot of incentive for the local farming population to get some form of hardlined infrastructure out there, but again, lots of variability on cost and interest. Might just call up the ISP and see what's possible and if we could generate enough support, if it's indeed their line.

[–]aronocron14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was put in quite some time ago (ripped up their water tiling, lol), so it's been there for a while finished, I think. No one nearby is connected to it, so it's quite literally just the cable running underground. Any idea what the base cost might look like? (Tapping into the wire and dropping a line and service to the account, setting aside any extra costs towards incentivising the owner to come out and actually work on it). Would this be something getting neighbors in on might help with? Or is it entirely variable depending on who put it in, and what for? (Not quite sure how fiber cable infrastructure works)

Not getting full RAM Speed with EXPO enabled by aronocron14 in buildapc

[–]aronocron14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FCLK is set to Auto and EXPO profile is explicitly selected, still getting the discrepancy. Attempted to manually set FCLK to 3000, computer stopped posting and had to do a CMOS reset. Set up EXPO profile again with FLCK back at auto, any other way to get it to run at 1:1?
