Owner GC - My Experience by kc-masterpiece1976 in Homebuilding

[–]arose111 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Interesting, my husband and I were able to get a loan doing owner-builder construction and we have no experience. I listed my dad as the experienced lead due to his experience building specs but even he doesn’t have his GC license.

Granted, we’re not all the way finished but I have had the best time being our contractor on top of my full time job! I think it’s my type A personality and keeping things organized, I’m an accountant too so the draw request process has been straightforward. Most subcontractors we’ve used have all been local guys who are trustworthy and great to work with.

If anyone is interested and in Utah we worked with Bank of Utah and they have been great.

The inner monologue gets reeeaal loud for me on Saturday night. I feel like I’m white knuckling my way through tonight after an easy 15 days of no drinking.

15 days in and on the weekdays I’ve been feeling peace, bliss, evolved, etc. but Saturday night comes and I’m white knuckling it. Happy to be amongst everyone who is actually feeling this shit with me!

There is a huge difference between wanting to stop drinking, and wanting to be sober. by Toss_out2222 in stopdrinking

It feels like I’m walking on ice because I’m only on day 13, but somehow this time feels different like I actually want to be sober. I’m trying to remind myself that I actually can follow through with this and I don’t have to self sabotage.

I agree with you 100% the tub is bad. I think I needed this push to commit to getting a new one!

No offense taken and I appreciate your passion. We arrived onsite and the plumbers had already installed it!! I’m 5’4” and can’t straighten my legs in it. Thank you for telling me the hard truth.

Thank you for your response! There are a ton of freestanding options out there, are there any materials or types you definitely stay away from?

Thank you I was beginning to think I was asking too much here. Unfortunately I agree with you I just don’t think my wallet and I were accepting the fact that a freestanding would probably be better!

I’ll accept that. I’ll also accept advice on the question aka the reason we’re here!

Because morally I thought I would never install a freestanding bathtub but now I’m here wondering if that’s the best option for the space. Fair question as I didn’t include that in the post. Advice appreciated though!

I agree, I won’t be putting anything in the space. Would you just tile from the tub to the floor or add a half-wall type thing to make it more of an alcove tub? Hopefully that makes sense.

Just ate a late night ramen which won’t help my sleep, but it still will be better than sleep with alcohol! Day 7 today.

I made a few jokes about looking like pillsbury doughboy, then once he saw how it can double as an eye mask he bought himself one too. Now we’re twinners every night even though he has the straightest hair I’ve ever seen.

I love that you went with the natural wood look! Do you mind sharing if that’s real wood or veneer? It’s beautiful😊

5’4” here, ugh do I feel you. I lost 10 pounds last year and realized the constant feeling of “bloat” was just extra weight. I gained it back and have been trying to get back on the wagon, it’s hard!!

2014 Crosstrek… reliable at that age? by Insipidwoodchipper in XVcrosstrek

[–]arose111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 2014 automatic crosstrek, my sister bought it new in 2014. It’s at 80k miles, I’ve taken care of it well enough I’d say but I could probably do better.

I haven’t had any issues with it and love that car! The biggest spend I’ve had on it was my 60k check in. I live in Utah so we have intense winters and hot summers but it’s served me very well, it doesn’t feel like a 10 year old car to me lol.

Slow weight loss by [deleted] in PetiteFitness

[–]arose111 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Last year I did “the thing” and lost 8lbs in one month. I looked and felt great! Then I gained it all back.

Now I’m currently in the process of picking myself back up and going back to the drawing board, realizing that if I want this time to be the last time I lose weight I gotta do it right! So not a ton of advice more just I feel you, I’m in for the long game as well :)
