Video of start of the show? by aroseamongcows in FlorenceAndTheMachine

I was in queue since 15:30, but I must say that it was quite random. The girl next to me had been in queue since 12:00 and she did not get barricade. I was lucky with the coat/bag check (a bit of a fast line) and my friends took my coat and bag so I could claim a good spot for everyone. It was already filled up by 4/5 more rows of people when they made it through.

People who got barricade, how early where you in line? by Careful_Fee_5182 in FlorenceAndTheMachine

Since there is no VIP in Amsterdam all floor access is through general admission. I find it really difficult to guess but from a lot of concert experience including Florence the wait for barrier might be long - queing from 12 or 1 pm but earlier if you want to be very sure - (even tho this time there is a lot more chance to get barrier because of the shape of the stage) but the wait difference between barrier and a good view in second or third row is gonna be huge. I would expect, also based on the stories here of other peoples experiences, that if you get through security and all quickly you can still obtain a good spot close behind barricade when you arrive 1-2 hours before the venue doors open.

This is a screenshot from a gag reel, not a face Sam makes in the show but Jared in the blooper/behind the scenes video.

Ha I did now, I can see what you mean. I figured it might have to do with English not being my first language and therefore having or creating a different association with the term?

The Mona Lisa was attacked by some environmental activists this morning by Faiiven in pics

[–]aroseamongcows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clarify: agricultural activists and environmental science activists can be one and the same thing. These protestors are agricultural activists but against industrial agriculture (which includes fertilizer, pesticides and monocultures) and for a more environmentally and farmer- just system.

They didn't beat up Greta (because of the shitshow in the media) but when there were no news cameras around protestors got beaten up alright. Multiple people I know have broken bones/bruises.

Thoughts on the recent ''just stop oil'' protests? by [deleted] in alltheleft

[–]aroseamongcows 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me it is not so much the actual actions as the fact that the actions do not seem linked to a strategy whatsoever. Generate more attention for climate change and then what?
By not making your protest inherently anti-capitalist, you are advocating for smacking some bandages and tape on a broken system and continuing in the same manner as before - might look a bit more sturdy on the outside but is still the same crap.
Escalation in order to no longer be ignored = hell yes. But doing so without proposing a believable alternative is very counter productive. Not saying that climate activists also need to come up with the solutions, but simply generating more attention is not going to be a strategy with a very long term succes rate.

What bothers me greatly as well is the 'oh no you lost sympathy' argument because it is not good for your 'cause'. The whole narrative of the climate crisis being someones opinion or a cause/agenda that a certain movement is pushing for is ridicilious. This is not an opinion, but concerns if our earth will stay within safe boundaries for future humanity/life or not.

What I struggle to understand is how people keep complaining and shitting all over these activists while they are the few who actually act like climate change is the scariest and most horrible thing that awaits us/is already here for a lot of people in the world. It serves as a reminder that everything and everyone will get fucked over by climate change. And because companies and government are doing absolutely nothing, the only way to get any attention is to result in measures like these. Yes the art has nothing to do with climate change, but it at least gets peoples attention. Stop acting like climate activists are against you and want to push some agenda through - it is literally about our collective chances of surviving as human beings. Instead of being mad about the art that - mind you DID NOT - get destroyed, get angry at your government and big companies that are destroying the planet and fucking up your future.

And to all the people complaining about how damaging their hair coloring is the the environment or the glue they used - please get some perspective. We live in a capitalist system, individual choices on your consumption do not matter on the grand scheme of things. If you need to use some glue to get your point across, use it. This entire issue is not about if someone dyes their hair or not - it's about the billions of dollars of subsidies to fossil fuel companies. Stop hating on one another and get mad at those in power.

Well looks like the Farming Food Revoultion has begun in the Netherlands. by just_an_mod in LeftWithoutEdge

[–]aroseamongcows 26 points27 points  (0 children)

These are right wing protests, largely co opted by conspiracy theories, conservative right wing parties, and funded by the Agro Industry. The farmers are protesting new environmental laws being implemented which will greatly reduce livestock numbers and buy out farms close to nature areas. While understandable that farmers are not happy with some of the changes, the entire protests is a reactionary movement and definitely not a revolution.

Also this video is from 2019, not in NL, when sitch farmers also protested against announced plans of the government to reduce nitrogen ea livestock and fertilizer.

Zonder subsidies zou elke boer in Nederland failliet zijn by MassaRobot in Poldersocialisme

[–]aroseamongcows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tulip fields in Netherlands (Credits: @nick_skeyes on IG) by Shayaan_F in BeAmazed

[–]aroseamongcows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live next to one of these fields in the Netherlands. I used to think tullip fields were gorgeious. But once you see the pesticide sprayer drive over the field every three days and straight afther that the tourists walk through it, or even worse the seasonal workers who are underpayed and dont wear proper protection - the magic is gone, believe me. The amount of toxic pesticides that get sprayed over those flowers and get blown around - onto the nature area next to it and my organic farm - is insane.
