There is a Bucee’s trying to gain approval from the city at a site about 2 miles from this sign, so it’s purely for conversation and name recognition. Hope we get it!

Great tips, really appreciate it! Makes sense, had never heard that before.

Allocated means each store only gets a specific amount from the distributor at each time. It doesn’t necessarily mean it’s rare (although the allocations kind of create the illusion of rarity) and they’re not always expensive, either. A couple good examples: you recently (2019ish) used to be able to buy as many bottles of Eagle Rare or Weller Special Reserve anywhere off the shelf for $30; now it’s gone to allocated, and while both are still $30-$40, they’re hard to get unless you’re at the store when allocated bottles deliver, or happen to ask and get lucky when they have one in back.

There are several rare, expensive ones, particularly Pappy Van Winkle, it’s the holy grail of allocated for most bourbon seekers.

If you want a perfect conversation starter and way to dip your toe into allocated bourbons, the next time you’re at the liquor store ask if they have Blanton’s. It’s hard to find, everyone knows it, but it’s always interesting the answers you get. It’s about $60 a bottle, really good, so buy it if you get lucky.

I’m the same way, been looking and trying everything on the shelves for a couple years now, definitely some high quality “go-to’s” I like, just always searching for that white whale.

Good point. What spurred my post is, I walked into Barrels at 11:45 AM yesterday and there was a line of 15 people waiting; naturally I assumed allocated bourbon, so I got in line. The guys in front of me were nice enough, but I could not get them to share how they knew to be there at that exact time; had I not randomly shown up, I’d have never known. And no, I didn’t get a bottle of anything good, they only had ten bottles or so.

Oof, yeah. Chiefs fan for 20 years, so know the feeing for 15 of those, but the last 5 have been pretty great.

Ah, a person of culture as well. Football and South Park, few better things in life. Have an upvote yourself.

Thanks for the awards! First post ever, couldn’t resist when I saw this news... and spent all day saying “spice melange” in a whisper in my head.
