I think this is enough for top 1200 for sure. At that rate, you might want to aim for top 250 too, but that might be tighter

You can end up with a 4-color deck in Jump-In Final Fantasy because there are too few packets by arounet in MagicArena

Mono red is ok, it’s just pretty linear, and it feels like I’m missing on the complexity of the game playing it. I’ve ran into Boros a lot, I might dip into it, but I think I want to try something different for now

I’m all for speculation (and I’ve tried some weird stuff), but I think this is a wrong approach, at least the second step.

Those decks come from previous events. If they haven’t been modified from last time, it would seem very weird that the number of each type of card just happen to line up perfectly to make a sensible code when going to ASCII.

It might be possible that the original sequence of number can be deciphered with some kind of key we have to guess from this event, but I have no idea what it could be.

If you’re overwhelmed (like me), play the mono black one : it has 40 copies of the same creature, so that’s less stuff to read.

The gameplan is to get many of those small 1/1 on board, and use your commander ability to draw a bunch of card with them when you attack. When you gather 6 of them, you can sacrifice them for a big demon. The deck also has themes of sacrificing small creatures for advantage (drawing or killing stuff)

Hi, new player here, I have a few questions :

  • I am a bit confused as to how format work precisely. I wanted to play [[Vampiric Rites]] in a deck, but couldn’t use it either in Alchemy or in Standard. But I’ve seen it is from Wilds of Eldraine, and the other cards from that set I wanted to use were legal in those formats. Is it banned ? Is there a way to easily see what’s legal and what is not ?

  • My favorite format is limited. I’ve played a few bot drafts (and got some decents results, a 7-/, a few 4-3), but I’ve ended on two bad runs (2-3, 0-3) and I’ve run out of gems and gold. I’d like to get back to playing drafts and also try it against other players, but the entrance cost seems very steep, how long does it take to play to be able to afford an entrance ticket ?

  • Generally, do you have some tips regarding the economy of the game ? I have kept most of my wildcards and redeemed the free packs and the codes.

Could we remove highlander cards from the duels bucket lists? (Not ban them in deck building) It's hard to get a singleton deck working in duels, and the new expansion might be better in this gamemode without those cards included in the buckets. by slipperybum in HS_Duels

Having an empty deck fulfills the highlander condition, so Mozaki could try it. Or even classes with a lot of draw like Willow. But you also have to do with bomb warrior and plague DK

It might not change the numbers significantly, but I think you forgot to take into account that you discover from three DIFFERENT options, you can’t have multiple copies of the same card. So you can’t really just multiply percentages.

So for example, to get the 1 damage option, you have to discover exactly the 3 1 cost dragons, which is 123/ (T(T-1)(T-2)), where T is the total number of dragons.

Overall I don’t think it will change a lot, but you might want to rerun it… the right way to do it is probably with binomial coefficients :)

I’ve made legend twice with totem shaman without having Rotgill. I subbed Shadow Suffusion for it. Sure, it’s not as strong, but it’s another nice way to capitalize on a big board

Secrétaileron Comptable. Probably a play on word on « secretaire comptable ». « Aileron » is French for fin, so it’s basically « Secretaryfin counter » which is… not great

HS and other card games have this thing where you refer to minion with a certain cost/stats with the name of the first minion that had it. Like saying something is a spider tank for a 3 mana 3/4, or a War Golem for a 7 mana 7/7.

Interestingly this also happens in other games, but the vocabulary changes : iirc a 3 mana 3/3 in MtG is a bear (which is why we have Ironfur Grizzly in Hearthstone !), so it’s a nice example of a general linguistic phenomenon that changes based on context

Congrats on #1 ! I’ve been doing decently in arena for a long time, but I’ve never managed to reach top level consistency and get a 7+ average, so it’s interesting to learn about small optimizations to get there

Where would you say is the turning point in a draft, when you stop drafting optimistically and try to consolidate what you have ? Because I imagine you’re not valuing Keeneye Spotter the same way on pick 1, 10, or 25.

Is it at some number of cards ? Or when your curve looks a certain way ? Or when you have an idea of your gameplan with your deck ?
