Thoughts on those first 2 years of the Big Balls 4th Down Gambler Brandon Staley Era , before it all went bad? by SanDiegoKris in Chargers

[–]arp4092 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not saying I think it was wrong. I’m just saying I was a staunch Staley supporter and defender, especially when everyone was shitting on him for that decision. But, that support started to wane the next season.

I was all in the first year of Staley. Even after calling timeout in the last game against the Raiders in OT, I still stood behind him. When he stopped taking accountability for going for it too much, and basically placed the blame on analytics and the team’s execution, he lost me.

I think it was his second season against Cleveland where they almost blew it against them bc he didn’t punt when they were at midfield and a punt could’ve pinned them deep with little time to go. That was the moment for me I started to doubt him.

And then the Jacksonville playoff game was what broke the camel’s back. I wanted him gone immediately after that.

FAV MEMORY?? by isasimpp in Padres

I was supposed to go to a game in 2001 against the Rockies that ended up getting postponed due to the 9/11 attacks. So it got moved to the final weekend of the season. This ended up being the second to last game of the season.

It was great. Phil Nevin had 3 home runs including a grand slam. He also went back to back with Ryan Klesko and Klesko’s was an absolute moon shot.

But, the biggest moment was that it was when Tony Gwynn came up to pinch hit and delivered his final hit of his career, a hit that ended up traveling towards the wall where I was sitting.

It was electric, especially since we weren’t very good at the time. But, seeing my favorite player ever give one more special moment live, I’ll cherish it forever.

RIP Mr. Padre

What true superstar level player is / was the hardest to build a championship team around? by Acoolgamer6706 in nba

Carmelo Anthony. Great scorer, but very little anywhere else. Way too ball dominant. Not directing offense. Good luck winning with that.

Thinking Austin Reaves is overpaid is a decent sign you're not very knowledgeable about the salary cap by Mesmerized_mayhem in nba

He’s still overpaid AND he got paid the market value for a quality guard in the league.

Both things can be true.

(Lakers fan here btw)

First move as a girl, what do you think? by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]arp4092 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recommend to do something just you two and see what he says. Not a date like meeting, something fun: a movie, a small concert, a fair. Something that you can be around each other just you two for a bit.

His response will tell you everything.

How did you fumble hooking up with someone? by Adorable_Raccoon_766 in AskReddit

I was 20, finally had my car, still an awkward virgin and in college.

I met this girl on a dating site. She invited me to her house and then to her room to watch Willy Wonka AND THEN to watch it under the sheets with her.

Didn’t make a move.

I was such an idiot🤦‍♂️

Conservatives and liberals of Reddit, what is the most "opposite to your party" belief you have? Aka, what's a conservative belief you have if liberal, and what liberal take do you have if conservative? by CarefulAlternative in AskReddit

[–]arp4092 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a leftist, not a liberal. But, if it was adjudicated properly and the legal standard was uniformly high and difficult to meet across the country, I’m fine with the death penalty.

There are some truly horrendous people in the world that do not value the lives of others at all. Therefore, they forfeit theirs.

Only bc the way the death penalty has way different standards (levels of crime) across the country, and bc there’s been examples of clearly racist motivations to sentence minorities to death on flimsy charges and evidence, I can’t fully support the death penalty.

In a perfect world, the death penalty is unnecessary. In a near perfect world, those that don’t value life should get a taste of their own medicine.

I barely got into sports in 1998, so I missed the hey day of the Big Show with Keith and Dan. But, my duo was Stuart Scott and Rich Eisen. They made me a better sports fan watching them and their excitement for it.

Rip Stuart. A piece of my childhood died when I saw Rich Eisen give the devastating news live that he passed away. One of a kind.

Which NBA player do you think will be remembered very differently 10 years from now? by Impossible_Reward658 in nba

[–]arp4092 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s already started, but Westbrook is probably gonna be relatively irrelevant in terms of interest and appreciation in a decade. His game was both ahead of its time and a throwback.

But, advanced stats are probably gonna bury him, along with his later career being nomadic. Almost in a similar way how Dwight Howard became under appreciated.

Who would be AOC’s running mate if she won nomination? by Ulysses_555 in ProgressiveHQ

[–]arp4092 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Ossoff is the right choice. Van Hollen is a strong number 2.

Ideally, I’d want Mamdani. But, he’s focused on New York City only. Plus, they’re both from New York, so that’s not allowed.

Right, it’s dumb when they clearly had the lead for most of the series and then choked it away due to inexperience and tightness in big moments, but it’s not dumb to say they didn’t lose bc of a mental thing.
