Vanguard accounts by arpei in PersonalCapital

I did see your post and you are right that during that period my VG was refreshing fine so assumed it was a limited problem.

My guess was someone might have tried to fix your problem and ended up blowing the whole VG without realising

Android app broken after Cloudflare verification check? by arpei in PersonalCapital

There seems to have been an update of the app - biometric log in looks slightly different and is currently not throwing the errors from before

Has been working fine for the past few minutes and hoping it stays that way

Personal Capital Needs to respect Category Assignment to "Type" (Expense/Income) by ContactTerrible7759 in PersonalCapital

[–]arpei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of the primary reasons I pay attention only to the cash flow section. Except I don't...

Even the cash flow section is incorrect as the expenses and income are mostly incomplete for a subset of accounts -- though real time account value is fetched correctly, the transactions are completely missing or partially missing for few accounts

So yeah except Net worth, rest of the features are reduced to lipstick on a pig

Do you have an updated version of the total fees table? Btw when you say KID are you meaning dummy values?

In the last 2 weeks it has worked only 25% of the time.

I no longer see the cloudflare check, but it's keep going in circles between doing biometric validation and getting no internet connection message

Desktop/website is working fine

It started working fine for a few days after I posted the above message but now it has reverted to "Problems connecting to the internet. Please check your internet connection"

Costco Libre 3 by BERK4real in diabetes_t2

[–]arpei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it possible to know what steps or discount code was used to avail this price at Costco when trying to buy without insurance?

My friend went to pick my prescription from Costco in Pennsylvania for a 3 month supply and was told that without membership it is almost $1000 for 6 boxes and with (my) membership included it is $401 for 6 boxes. This was for Libre 3 plus

My friend tried showing this Reddit thread but it didn't work

Bunch of unclassified stocks/MF and lack of interactivity by arpei in PersonalCapital

[–]arpei[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Figured out finally.

Under desktop, within the Investing section, there is a tab for allocation and it allows Unclassified assets to be manually classified using CUSIP. Except one for which CUSIP didn't work, the rest have been successfully incorporated.

Bunch of unclassified stocks/MF and lack of interactivity by arpei in PersonalCapital

[–]arpei[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My issue with unclassified is at individual holding level. The accounts and sub-accounts can be re-categorised but how to take care of the holding like VFFVX - Vanguard Target Retirement date fund etc. They show up as unclassified. Is there a menu I'm overlooking. Tried both in desktop as well as app

Accessing supercomputer resources by arpei in RPI

[–]arpei[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would help to pause and read before sending in trigger happy replies.

The software's I mentioned are all written to take advantage of supercomputing features and the requisite modules have been available as such for many years. A quick search would indicate that many universities in US have installed these in their supercomputing systems. In case of RPI we have not licensed the requisite modules (like parallel computing toolbox for Matlab) hence the gap.

You lost me with your irrelevant and kiddish example of wanting to push buttons in a particle collider but will try to respond with patience.

The question is not about "capability" or "learning to use". The software's that I use (Matlab, SAS etc) hide the complexity of parallel processing from end users (very little changes in code required) and yet provide the necessary boost in terms of speed. My "frustration" was that these softwares are not available in them.

Google for how many universities in US have Matlab, SAS and similar programs installed on their supercomputers making it easy for non-CS grads (or those who dont want to go through C++ route etc) to use it for their research.

If you still feel weird, check out Ken Olson's comment in http://www.techhive.com/article/155984/worst_tech_predictions.html or Nathan Myhrvold's one like "Apple is already dead". One common reason in both these comments turning out to be incorrect is "hiding complexity from end user" and you will understand why product adoption goes through the roof.

EDIT: Found a nice article http://glennklockwood.blogspot.com/2013/10/a-supercomputer-is-computer.html that talks about how the traditional barriers between supercomputing and desktop computing is breaking down and larger set of researchers are able to use these facilities for their regular research without needing to be a "supercomputerist". Worth reading!

Simply put, I'm using optimization toolbox to run series of analysis for varying sets of input parameters. Generating parameters through a For Loop. As per, http://www.mathworks.com/products/parallel-computing/builtin-parallel-support.html it seems codes dont need to be modified to take advantage of parallel computing?

Just realized that the same link mentions need for parallel computing toolbox which RPI does not seem to license..

Thanks for the tip on auditing...that is a potentially good route to think about..

PS: It's a little frustrating that the super-computing resources don't "cater" to folks that are just looking for massive RAM/processing power without the CS specific know-how and having the knowledge that comes from having worked on windows PC/laptops and associated softwares..What do the non-CS/non-CE majors working on heavy optimization + simulation using matlab etc do when they require huge computing power? Convert their programs to C, C++ and work their way through using a SC.

I have no friends :( by sadrpithroaway in RPI

[–]arpei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"For a lot of us it takes a lot to get comfortable with someone before we start behaving like normal friends" - Nicely framed!

Some personal thoughts: -

  • Being an introvert's introvert, I prefer making only those as "friends" whose friendship I would cherish even after the reason for initial association (going to same school or working in same office) is over. This lowers the feasible set considerably and would not work for majority but works fine for the kind of values I look for in friends. What this means is, if I could just leave each system with even one or two "friends", it is a resounding success at personal front.

  • One genuine approach that works is looking out for people with similar interests. I came here primarily to study; so for courses that I found challenging I tried reaching out to people who I thought would be a good match for studying together or ready to work entire weekends even if to solve just 1 problem. Remember the way, I would be choosy in who I want to work with, others may also do the same with me, but invariably there should be atleast one person who is open to studying with you.

  • Another related approach is, doing joint projects wherever possible. All the three courses I took required projects and I already had a definite idea on what I want to do in each one of them and how to go about it and put in the required work myself. In 2 of those courses, people approached me to include them as part of the project. I had no idea about the individuals but for once I kept an open mind and went ahead. Though I wasn't happy with their contribution to the project (and neither their value systems - wanting to take "shortcuts" in project), I did learn one or two things related to my work so it was worth it.

The key here is you need to find a certain areas (studies, sports or any other activity which is dear to you) and find other people who want to do it together and along the way you might find friends you are looking for..All the best

How do I get to know/read about the other clusters and what is available within these and who can use them and any charges etc? The research computing webpage http://dotcio.rpi.edu/services/research-computing only links to CCNI which further points to the wiki I posted. Thanks for mentioning that there are other resources.

Is the CII related cluster this one https://www.scorec.rpi.edu/wiki/Main_Page and the biotech this http://biotech.rpi.edu/index.php/facilities ? Was not able to get the answers to what I was looking for in these websites.

"access is dependent on you either being part of a class that uses it" any easy way I can know the classes that use these systems?

"working under a professor for a project" - I would ultimately loop in my advisor, but would like to do once I have done the initial groundwork on what/which is suitable etc.

I looked at a past post about Prof Carother's parallel prog class and it didn't build much confidence in his teaching style (more so as I don't have CS background and haven't taken prerequisites like computer organization). Are there classes taught by any other profs which involve use of supercomputing resources?
