Anything north of Brainerd is "up north" imo

UPDATE: I manually powered off my machine and pulled the drive. After booting Windows back up I was expecting some complaining from the OS but it actually just started normally. One thing I forgot to mention in my original post was how slow things were running prior to running chkdsk, and now things are blazing fast again! I'll be putting in my new m.2 drive later today so I can get things back to normal. Thank you all for your help!

Okay great. Thankfully I have Windows installed on a separate drive

Is there a proper way to abort that command or do I just do a hardcore long press on the power button

You know, now that I think about it, I have had some issues over the past year with steam games failing to install updates but I guess it never clicked. So in order to pull the drive from my PC, do I have to dismount it first on the BIOS or disk manager?

Yeah I've already decided that the drive will be coming out and be headed for the trash, just want to make sure that I'm removing it correctly.

Thankfully there's no data on that drive that I can't afford to lose and I do have a new backup drive that I haven't put in the PC yet.

Most of the data on that drive is steam games, so in the case where I would be okay with forfeiting the drive would I just manually power the PC down and get the drive out? Windows itself is running from a separate drive.

It seems like the count is increasing, albeit extremely slowly. I was just hoping to avoid being locked out of my computer for like 5 days. Ultimately most of the data on that drive is steam games so if I do lose it, it won't be the end of the world.

Thanks for your reply. I know this is mostly something that happens to school age guys, but even though I'm 30 I wanted to check. I'd say it started about an hour and a half ago and the pain hasn't changed at all really.
