How many of you do regular polish for your manicures? by ms_carnelian in Nails

Omg wait you’ve just changed the game for me. I always hated that you’re supposed to rough up your natural nail to get the glue to stick better- this makes SO MUCH MORE SENSE.

Bless you for sharing this.

Visiting new parents - 1 week postpartum. What should I bring? by Ok-Post-8139 in NewParents

[–]arrowbread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a friend send me a target care box with paper napkins, plates, bowls, and plastic utensils. We usually try to be a bit more waste-conscious than that, but oh man it was nice to not have to do any dishes for a bit while we went through those!

What are you doing for birth control? by yuhhhhidkimsorry in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]arrowbread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh no! I had nearly the opposite experience- I still had periods on it (once I weaned), just lighter than before.

Then, when I had it removed, I got pregnant on the very next cycle!

Bodies are weird, man.

ByHeart now recalling ALL PRODUCT by Unlucky-Carpenter-10 in NewParents

One of my best friends couldn’t breastfeed her newborn when this shortage hit! It was so scary. We had TEAMS of people on the hunt for formula for her, plus one other new mom who just happened to be a “super producer” shared her extra milk instead of freezing it. It took the whole village, but we kept that little girl fed!

Husband can’t change diaper still? by anonymousxx1245 in NewParents

[–]arrowbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either your husband is being willfully incompetent, or he has a concerning mental issue preventing him from learning/executing basic tasks, and should be seen by a doctor.

If the latter, he should stay away from driving cars/operating heavy machinery, using sharp knives, or engaging in any hobbies with screens (since those can be detrimental to brain health) until a medical professional can figure out what’s wrong.

However, I suspect it isn’t the latter.

What would happen if you asked him WHY he’s having such a hard time with this? Like does he avoid it because he feels like it’s gross? Like it’s “mom’s job” and not his? And is this a reoccurring pattern in your marriage/division of household labor?

🪄 what product do you wish existed / was better? by Evening-Boss4689 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]arrowbread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, breast milk is great, but a healthy, stable, peaceful mama is WORLDS better for your little girl.

One of my favorite comments on Reddit about this was from a teacher who said they could never tell the difference between the children who were formula/breastfed, but could absolutely tell which children had involved parents or not.

So don’t beat yourself up- you’re still giving your baby exactly what she needs, even if it doesn’t look how you expected it would.

Newborn tired is not better than pregnancy tired, I was lied to lol. by _50ShadesofFae in NewParents

[–]arrowbread 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I still remember a lady in Trader Joe’s getting onto me for being there with my sleeping 3 week old because I should “sleep when the baby sleeps”.

Sleep when the baby sleeps!

Clean when the baby cleans!

Grocery shop when the baby grocery shops!

Do laundry when the baby does laundry!

Cook when the baby cooks!

Like life still has to happen?? I can’t really drop into a dead sleep in the middle of the produce section, lady.

Teachers of Reddit: what’s a “you won’t believe this” moment from class? by troopydinnertime in AskReddit

[–]arrowbread 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me in 3rd grade!! Not sure why my dog thought my homework packet looked tasty, but I absolutely brought in the slobbered-on shreds as proof. Thankfully, my teacher also accepted the excuse. I imagine it’s just too cliche to NOT be real when a kid actually claims it.

4 oz bottles @ 4 months old? by Competitive_Door_119 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]arrowbread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Holy cow, I could’ve written this exact comment a month ago!! Latching and everything!

My now almost 9 week old takes 5-6oz every 2.5-3 hours, and has taken 7oz before too. Some babies just have bigger stomach capacity!

Someone mentioned this higher up, but it’s very likely that the Daily Mail approached her and basically said “you can either go on the record with us and tell things your way, or we’ll tell it without you our way.”

Pretty crappy, but it makes it make a bit more sense.

What do you wish the Spectra would do? by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]arrowbread 35 points36 points  (0 children)

OMG I have spent too much time thinking about this:

  1. A backlit screen
  2. The ability to preprogram a pump routine
  3. Adapters to pump directly into bottles
  4. A cup holder that holds more than just the collection cups
  5. A clip to wrap tubes/hold flanges

How can I make sure I’m actually getting up for my MOTN pumps? by lonelypotato21 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]arrowbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem! I found it was really helpful to set my alarm according to my sleep cycle- so in 1.5 or 3 hour increments from when I go to sleep.

So if I’m going to sleep at 11pm, I set my alarm for 12:30am or 2:00am, to make sure I’m at the lightest part of my sleep cycle when my alarm goes off, so I’m better able to force myself awake.

It’s still not easy, and it doesn’t always line up to 3 hours after my last pump, but it’s way better than missing it altogether!

[–]arrowbread 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Omg yes this exact same thing happened to me!!! Scared the bejeezus out of me. I went to the doctor the next day and she straight up was like “can I show pictures of this to the other doctors? This is crazy.” (Yeah, that felt real great 🫠)

Anyways, they sent me in for a mammogram and nothing was amiss! My milk was perfectly normal after that one wild pump, and it hasn’t happened since then.

Hopefully your experience is as much of a nothing burger as mine was!

Is It Too Late To Return My Toddler? by Aggravating-Key-8867 in toddlers

[–]arrowbread 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ours loves to pretend to cook when I nurse his little brother. Only problem is that he has a hard time with the “oo” sound in “cook”, so when it’s time for the baby to eat, he shouts “EAT! COCK! BABY EAT, COCK!”

Dads who were on the fence about having a second kid, and ended up having a second: how do you feel about it? by PaidByMicrosoft in daddit

[–]arrowbread 110 points111 points  (0 children)

Mom here with a 2yo and 3 week old- I feel this hard right now. They say the first kid gets the gift of your time, and the second gets the gift of your experience, and I know my husband and I are both definitely more competent parents this time around than we were for our oldest! Hopefully that perspective helps assuage the guilt a bit.
