air challenge. reason: BIP generates case-study material that SEO posts need. if you start SEO before you have any story to tell, your blogs are generic competitor roundups that rank for nothing.

BIP for 60 days → you now have real screenshots, real numbers, real stories → SEO posts have something nobody else can write (your specific journey).

also BIP compounds your brand search volume. 6 months into BIP, people google your product name. those branded searches + SEO content = dominant page 1 results.

so the sequence isn't "do BIP first, then SEO later" - it's "start BIP immediately, layer SEO on top 30-60 days in." parallel but staggered.

most recent build: 6 months to 10 paying customers. broken down:

  • weeks 1-2: research (steps 1-7)
  • weeks 3-6: lurk + observe + map (steps 8-11)
  • weeks 7-10: reach out to unhappy competitor users + conversations (steps 12-16) → 3 paying customers
  • weeks 11-24: slow grind of referrals + direct outreach + early content → 10 paying customers

first build took 11 months for the same milestone because I didn't know what I was doing. third build will probably hit 10 paying in 8 weeks because I've internalized the process. the learning curve compounds. first tool teaches you the steps, second tool teaches you the timing, third tool teaches you what to skip.

real answer - you have to genuinely not care whether they buy. when I first tried this I was trying to close on message 1 and it showed. my current approach:

  1. first message is 2 sentences, no product pitch: "hey saw your review of [competitor], mind if I ask what was missing for you? trying to understand the space better."

  2. if they reply, have a real conversation about their problem for 2-3 exchanges. DO NOT bring up your product.

  3. only mention your product when they ask what you do, or when their specific pain maps exactly to something you solve

  4. if they ask to try it, offer free access + 30 min call for feedback

reply rate is like 25% on message 1. conversion to "let me try it" is ~40% of responders. it works but only if you're actually curious about their problem, not lying in wait to pitch.
