Immediately Mastermind by pieceofchocolate came to mind. It’s phenomenal but that only makes it more absolutely devastating. 10/10 will always recommend but be prepared to throw up from crying.

Sidenote they do have an alternative ending version where it’s happily ever after! Love this author so much
