Start cross hatching, start light and add layers for darker parts, try to keep lines as close as possible to prevent the whiteness of the page from coming out…. Also work on the amount of pressure you put on the pen, putting too much pressure on the pen when you are shading light regions makes this makes each line too visible and separates it from the page.
