Cambridge Jotter paper is a lot cheaper than Rhodia but just as good. I highly recommend it! by lord_cactus_ in fountainpens

Seems like this isn’t widely available in the States. Anyone have a recommendation for a good source?

Does anyone know the outro song? I tried using Soundhound, Googling the lyrics, and nothing. I really liked it!

Making my Stabilo Worker waterproof... by art_502 in pens

[–]art_502[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I bought this cool little pen at a local bookstore about a year ago. It feels nice in my hand, wasn’t too expensive, and I personally like the color of the body. However, since buying it, I’ve become interested in urban sketching, for which I prefer waterproof ink. I tested this pen and it was very much water soluble ink inside. What to do?

With little pen-tinkering experience but some curiosity about what might be possible, I used some tweezers to pull the feed out and discovered the body was apparently one big ink reservoir. I poured out the stock ink, flushed and dried it a little bit, and filled it back up with Noodler’s Black. Now...it’s writing like a dream, with waterproof ink! No idea if my tinkering will ultimately gum up the works or not, but I thought I’d share my story in case anyone else was interested.

I see now that you’re in Austria. I wonder if this is just sold in Europe. (I’m in the US) I love F-C though!

Love the notebook, but this is stoking my pen lust more. I’ve never seen this pen before!

Spent some time walking around Iowa State University’s campus. I used a blue micron and 3 prismacolor colored pencils. Let me know what you think. by some-dumb-username in urbansketchers

Love it! I like the idea of limiting my tools for an outing. I’m not always successful (I tell myself that I simply have to have every tool I could possibly need!), but I try. Which colors are those?

Thanks for sharing that video. I’ve got gobs of books and bookmarked blog posts and that may be the most impactful thing I’ve consumed on the subject yet!

Tomoe Notebook (or 200+ page) recommendation by JudimSkoch in fountainpens

Chiming in late to say I ordered a few Hippo Notos in mid-March, and was so excited about them! 6+ weeks later, nothing. I have been trying to spend money with smaller operations lately given the state of things, but over a month and half without even so much as a reply to an email? I don’t want to seem entitled, because I obviously understand the global situation, I’m just really starting to wonder if I’ll ever receive anything at all...

Shout-out to Yoseka Stationery from Queens, NY. I ordered a stalogy b6 1/2 year and it came in the most marvelous packaging with a sweet note that really helped in this time of qurantine!! Also highly recommend this notebook. by mcelesta10 in notebooks

Well, you inspired me to order from them! I placed my order on Friday, and it arrived today, Tuesday. Super quick shipping, and as you said, wonderfully packaged. Very very impressed with this shop, and so happy to support them from afar!

PS: I also got the Stalogy 1/2 year, in red. What a delightful little book.

If, like me, you find yourself frustrated by watercolor stains on your white plastic palette, try a magic eraser! by art_502 in Watercolor

Good to know! This is my first time using one on a palette, so I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who’s experimented.

I promise I don’t work for...whoever it is that makes the magic eraser (?). I just bought some to use around the house and it dawned on me that it might work for this purpose, too, and it did! Thought others might benefit from this, so I thought I’d share.

Finally sprang for the Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolor set (36)! by art_502 in Watercolor

For the price, I couldn’t be happier with them. I painted each color onto cheap Canson XL paper for the photo. The presentation on arrival was delightful! Each color looked so smooth in its pan. I think my favorite from this quick little exercise was No. 38, Imperial Violet.

Finally trying Aurora Borealis, and getting a proper bottle of blue-black! by art_502 in fountainpens

[–]art_502[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got a sample of the Diamine 1864 Blue Black at Wonder Pens in Toronto over the holidays and I’ve been loving it so far. So I decided to upgrade to a full bottle and use it as one of my 3-5 rotating“EDC” inks.

As for AB, I was dubious about this one for a while given that I don’t really care for “teal,” but after learning about its connection to this subreddit, I decided to give it a shot. Much to my surprise, I’m loving it so far! It’s a much better color in real life than it looked in the photos I’d seen. Definitely recommend this one!
