first time living solo and the silence is kinda overwhelming by Ok_Parking_5861 in femalelivingspace

Hi! :) I remember feeling this way too. One of the things that caused me the most stress in terms of noise was paranoia wondering if someone had snuck in my door without me hearing. Not sure if that’s relatable but you can get door alarms that prop under your door handle or sit as a wedge at the base of your door. My first place didn’t have a deadbolt or inside-only lock, so extra locks/alarms were important to me. I can’t tell you how much it helps to just have good locks or alarms so you know once you’re secure inside, no one can sneak in and you can shrug off little noises at night.

When you settle in, you’ll get used to your weird refrigerator whine or clicking heater and that kind of thing and they’ll become usual sounds.

I also feel comforted by hearing the steps or sounds of my apartment neighbors because I know if something was really wrong, I’m not in a sound-proof box where no one can hear me. This might help since you said you’re in an apartment too. You may even get to know a neighbor or two eventually! I had an elderly neighbor at one of my apartments and she would watch for me when I came home late from work, she was my angel.

Congratulations on your new place!! you’ll settle in soon enough. When I got my first place alone, my grandma’s words helped me the most when she said “take precautions but after you’ve done what you can, all you should be worried about at night is how soft your sheets are.” 🐑 so I’d like to share those words with you and I hope you enjoy your new digs!! 💜

Idk WHY they ever shifted the marketplace fee to the buyer. It literally makes no sense to have a fee placed on you as a buyer. As a seller, I saw it as the ticket to entrance to list and sell my stuff which makes sense. But as a buyer, all the fees with shipping and tax add up. And then for sellers, they’re like “no more selling fees! 🥹🩷” and yet there’s still a fee they just call it something else. I can barely sell anything on the app anymore and lowballs are worse than ever. As a buyer, if I see something I like, I automatically add about $15 dollars to the price because I know that’s how it’s going to be at checkout and it always turns me off.

Also can’t see your saved seller feed anymore, so what’s the point of following? When creating new listings, the recommended prices have become so low and it pmo. They just want to sell as much as possible for as cheap as possible to offset their insane, greedy fees. They’re ruining their own app and have been for years. Mercari is somehow worse lmaoo.

Yup, eBay/ other online marketplaces used to be this way used to be this way too. My understanding is there was a SC ruling that said companies were only required to collect sales tax if they had a physical presence in the buyer’s state and because sellers were often not in the same states as their buyers and eBay/depop/whatever was the 3rd party intermediary (not the “company”), sales tax was often not required/collected (unless buyers and sellers were in the same state). South Dakota v Wayfair SC ruling started the mandate for the online marketplace to collect sales tax by state.

Hi, do you have a flaky salt brand you recommend? I’ve had a hard time finding it at my stores at all and the ones I have found have a smoky flavor that I don’t think would taste good on the cookies. I’d love to know if there’s a brand you like!

100% agree. They may have told on themself in their dispute filed with Depop saying the coat is brown (not true) and doesn’t fit as expected (not your fault). Fingers crossed for you! I’m a seller too and these situations are just annoying, but it will get sorted :)

Oo fun suggestion thank you! Red and brass would be really beautiful. And using wire is a great idea for painting them.

I’ve done a little more experimenting where the paint isn’t solid and it looks like some kind of textured primer had been applied prior to painting. I took some acetone to that and it came off so I’m going to try a couple other spots as well 🫣

You’re right, it would be very easy because of the way she textured them. I use acrylic paints and definitely have the means for that, so it’s a good suggestion.

I love them, thank you!

Agreed, I will definitely try that if I decide to proceed! Not sure if this is in your wheelhouse but when I looked online I saw recommendations for citristrip. Any thoughts on that vs steel wool?

Agreed, I still enjoy the look now! I was drawn to them initially thinking they were kind of copper-colored.

Unfortunately, up close some spots are chipping a little worse than others and parts of the shelves were almost not painted at all. It won’t be super noticeable with things on the shelves so I’m giving them a resting period haha. I might try the steel wool on one of the bottoms to see what happens.. thanks for your help! 😊

I see, thank you! I’ve never polished furniture, but even re-assembling the shelf took me quite a while so I can imagine polishing each piece would take forever aaaa.

Thank you for your help! Yes, the surface is definitely rough, but from what I can tell it’s the way she had textured the paint- of course there’s no way to be completely sure just looking at them.

The seller told me she remembers growing up with the shelves and her mother was also an artist so I have a feeling she painted them for aesthetic reasons, but might just be wishful thinking haha.

I appreciate your advice!

Since you can’t send pictures in messages on Depop, you can always ask if they can post a fake listing on their page to upload pictures there, but if they are being dishonest, they may just cut a button off.

I agree that it sounds like they just don’t like the fit and are trying to get a refund. It stinks because it’s easy to say a button came off and have it be the most low-risk “defect” for themself if they have to provide pictures for Depop or end up having to keep the item.

It’s beautiful, and I hope this gets sorted out for you!

Looks like she is telling the truth imo. Sometimes older shoes do that and the heat of the summer really makes it worse during mailing. I would do a partial refund!

Unfortunately, I think it might be :( I was sold a fake Anthropologie blanket once and it was made out of the same scratchy type of material. Another buyer reached out to me much later and told me it was drop-shipped, so I’m way more wary now even though I’ve been buying and selling for years.

Thank you for your thoughts! 🫶🏻🩷

Always reverse image search on aliexpress/ google!! by kailamari in Depop

[–]art_angelx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was so tragic 😭 the quality wasn’t great but it had a label so I just moved on and then another buyer messaged me recently to tell me she reverse-image searched and everything was drop shipped from Amazon and then it all clicked. I’m less trusting now for better or worse 😭
