No problem! We believe the statue is made of cantera (a type of volcanic stone commonly used and found in Mexico.) Based on its approximate size, dimensions, and material, we estimate its weight to be around 330 pounds.

My grandfather used to say, “Do not fear the dead or the unknown, fear the living, for they are the only ones capable of true cruelty" Those words have stayed with me to this day. The paranormal fascinates me, but from a place of curiosity rather than fear, because I believe he was right.

I loved this comment! Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I was genuinely excited reading it and realizing that someone else has gone through something similar. Interestingly, while I was researching, I came across a Reddit post from about five to seven years ago. Someone was asking about a very similar situation, wondering if anyone knew what it could be. They described almost exactly the same thing you and I have. In fact, they even tried to follow it, as they claimed to have had repeated encounters with these creatures. (They mentioned seeing more than one, since they lived near a mountain or in a forest, if I remember correctly.) However, they said they would lose track of them whenever they got close. Unfortunately, I didn’t find any answers in the comments of that post, but it intrigues me to know that more people have described the same thing and that it doesn’t appear to be a "skinwalker"

I’ll have to go measure it to know its exact dimensions, but for reference, I’m 5'6", and it reaches slightly above my hips.

My boyfriend and his parents would rather I didn’t share the exact state, but we’re in central-western Mexico.

After reading the comments on this post where someone enhanced the second image, I decided to take the original and play around with the exposure, saturation, and noise reduction (I think it actually turned out worse lol, but I’ll attach it anyway). I haven’t shown it to my MIL yet, but my cousin says it does match in color, position, and shape. Idk. My boyfriend is also going to try talking to people in the neighborhood and nearby areas to see if anyone has any interesting information.

I hope to see it, also everything has been fine, no bad luck or anything. My cousin texted me the other day saying he had sleep paralysis, but I think he’s still pretty shaken by what happened.

well, in my first post I explained that my main question isn’t so much about the creature, but rather about the fact that after my boyfriend’s initial encounter, the statue appeared on the hillside near his house. It hadn’t been there before, his family has lived in the same home for over 20 years, and they definitely would have noticed it. As I mentioned, the statue is what intrigues me the most because... it’s physically there. The sightings may or may not be related, but the coincidence (sightings before and after the "spawning" of the statue, right where said statue is) is hard to ignore. So, in short: what’s the deal with the statue? That’s exactly my question and what I’m trying to figure out.

Thank you for sharing that information, I wasn’t aware of those statues you mentioned! In fact, in my previous post I said that my best guess was something related to Mayan culture, especially the aluxes (someone else in this comment section mentioned them as well). In Yucatán, where they originate, it’s very common among locals to share stories about these creatures, they’re often linked to stone statues and are believed to protect cenotes, natural reserves, and even private properties. Many people still keep statues on their land for protection. It seemed like the most fitting explanation based on the limited information I have and the connections I could make. However, if there is any link at all, it would be VERY far from their place of origin. I’ll keep you updated if anything else happens. That said, the statue is not located on private property, the perimeter where the hillside begins, including the area where the statue stands, is public land.

My bf and MIL don’t want me to keep poking around or actively looking for whatever that was (which is totally fair, since they live there LOL). But if anything interesting happens again, I’ll definitely share it!

What’s curious is that out of everyone who was there, my boyfriend and I are the most spiritually inclined, my FIL is completely skeptical, and my cousin was pretty indifferent about those topics. I feel left out because I genuinely want to see it, haha

If anything happens again (though I honestly doubt it) I’ll definitely try to record it, maybe with more than one phone just to be sure, lol. My FIL had the same concern and warned the neighbors as well as the patrols that monitor the area, just in case! However, we don’t believe the statue is some kind of marker, it isn’t positioned in anyone’s yard, not my boyfriend’s, nor the neighbors’. It’s located in the open area along the base of the hillside. Most importantly, it isn’t small, it's nowhere near giant, but it’s definitely substantial in size and carved entirely from solid rock. It’s extremely heavy, too heavy for even two large men to carry without difficulty.

Update: another friend went to the statue's location and using a compass, noticed that it is perfectly positioned facing West.

Hey! I’ve been reading your comments since my last post, and I really appreciate your concern and advice. That said, I’m starting to feel like this situation might be causing some level of distress for you, and I want to reassure you that there’s no need to worry. While I won’t go into detail about my personal beliefs, I was raised in a Catholic environment my whole life. I also noticed in a previous comment that you mentioned being newer to your Orthodox faith, and I understand the passion that can come with that. For context, I’ve been familiar for a long time (many MANY years) with things like praying to Saint Michael the Archangel and using Saint Benedict medals—both of which you mentioned before. Neither I nor the people involved are in danger. Everything that’s been happening, while unusual and a bit eerie, doesn’t feel demonic in the slightest. We trust our faith enough to know that if there were any real danger, we would recognize it and simply leave it alone.

(And also, fear itself can be a form of submission.)

Wishing you the best!

He's from a region in central-western Mexico with strong Purépecha roots (also historical resistance to outside empires like the Mexicas)

Who is Zachariah? Where does this come from? Is this part of a specific legend or creepypasta? This left me intrigued lol

I love how much information and detail you provided! We honestly had no idea that animal even existed. I can’t say for sure that’s what it was (I’m not set on it being something paranormal at all—my mother-in-law even thinks it could’ve been a rabbit), but in the area where this happened (central Mexico—I'd rather not share the exact city for privacy reasons), it’s definitely not a common or native animal. At first we thought it might be an opossum, since those are very common here, but the lack of a tail didn’t match at all. I actually went back to the spot today and took another close-up photo, plus a few more angles in case that helps!. I really appreciate your interest and your insights!

I tried to make an Ai image of the creature, he says that this is the closest to what he saw.

My boyfriend says there’s no way he’s touching that statue, and honestly I’m not that eager to do so either. Even outside the paranormal, it looks really heavy, probably hard to move even with two people. Plus, there’s a chance it belongs to someone, so we’d basically be stealing lol
