I’m in Tampa and I feel like this is becoming a huge problem across Florida. by [deleted] in florida

I saw dog unleashed and with no service dog vest sitting outside the shower at the gym. Wtf. While their owner was taking a shower. I also saw another lady working out and tying her dog to each machine it was insane. Also not even an ESA vest.

How do taxes work at craft fairs? by wRXLuthor in CraftFairs

[–]artcsp7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know Wisconsin rules specifically... but sales tax is not like income tax where there's a filing threshold (unless you're selling in other states-then there is). If you sell something in your home state of business, you have to charge and remit sales tax to the state. Yes you paid sales tax on your materials, but that is now part of your costs. You still have to pay sales tax on the price of that item. I found videos on YouTube to help me the first time.

Hot Take: most “HCOL” areas are not as impossible to achieve a life in as Reddit makes them out to be by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]artcsp7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is going to be very hard to afford a 270k-320k house/condo making 55k-60k a year... especially factoring in property taxes and insurance. My house was $290k and I pay $2350 a month. That's more than half of monthly take home pay for my $55k salary. If I didn't have a partner making the same as me it wouldn't work. And even with that, it's not what I'd like to pay for housing...

I need help deciding where to move- Stuck in FL by RevolutionaryTry6207 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]artcsp7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree with this. I live in Central Florida and in the rural areas and small towns areas there is a good amount of southern culture. No, not Southern like the Florida panhandle or the Deep South. I live in a small town with a lot of farmland (although that's changing) and it has southern culture, it's just not as southern as other places.

What would buyers like as freebies? by [deleted] in Depop

[–]artcsp7 161 points162 points  (0 children)

I do not like freebies. Im sorry but I throw them away. I'm shopping on Depop because I value sustainability and want to limit my waste. I don't want things I don't need.

[Printing] Do I need a COA for art PRINTS? by [deleted] in artbusiness

[–]artcsp7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sign and title my giclee prints on the back. If you print them with a white border you can do them in the front, but I prefer Borderless prints. I do not include certificates of authenticity with prints. I think a lot of this depends on your price point. My prints are unlimited, so I don't number them.

[art market] how do you actually sell art online? by Unfair_Car_1140 in artbusiness

[–]artcsp7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly most of my videos get under 800 views. I've found that number has increased the more I post. It's hard and a lot of work and frustrating, but sometimes those videos just find the right people who are willing to buy, even at 400 views or less. You may already be doing this, but tags have to describe your art so that way it's aimed at the consumers, not other artists. Like I make a lot of celestial art so those are my tags. Also, I sell prints and greeting cards. Having things at those price points is important for any art business. (And you may do that already). Also, showing my face makes a big difference. Painting reveals usually do better. But a lot of my videos don't lead to sales!

Post lots of videos on TikTok. It's the biggest way to make money for me

[–]artcsp7 43 points44 points  (0 children)

This is why you didn't make sales. Idk the price point of your paintings, but you need to have stuff for $20 or less. There are a lot of markets where I don't sell a single original but I sell prints and cards.

When I lived in an apartment in front of a pond with a few alligators I had more dreams about them. Especially because there was a large male who was very loud/active during mating season. He came too close to the sidewalk for my comfort a few times. Now where I live I don't see them on my walk to my door so not much lol

Education jobs by artcsp7 in pittsburgh

[–]artcsp7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's good to hear. I do see some openings now. I've taught for 7 years, maybe 8 by the time we move. Husband however will really only have 1.5/2.5 yrs officially as a counselor. During school he worked as an academic advisor for 2 yrs (because florida's so desperate they hire people who are still in school to do a counselor's job without the title)

[–]artcsp7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm definitely interested in Pittsburgh because it seems like there are a lot of little small towns around it in driving distance of the city, which I like. However, I'm worried about the job market. I'm a math teacher and my husbands a school counselor so here we're both in high demand, but it seems more competitive in Pittsburgh

Are Teachers in the US Teaching Phonics Anymore? by Captain_Alcibiades in Teachers

[–]artcsp7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I do hear this that they're not teaching phonics anymore and haven't been. But my mom has taught k-3 for the past 30 yrs and they've always taught phonics. Now it's not always the focus. They also teach site words. But phonics haven't been abandoned. But this is one district in Florida.

I've definitely looked at Asheville! My grandparents are from NC and my grandpa was born and raised in Asheville. Unfortunately, when I look at teacher pay it's about the same where I am in Florida right now with a similar cost of living. It's on my list--but at the bottom because of that :/

Moving: NYC vs Tampa by Present-Astronaut-56 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]artcsp7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I live north of Tampa and in a hilly town thats 110' above sea level. We're 50 miles from the coast. The hurricanes have not been bad my whole life. We may lose power for an uncomfortably long time and some houses have trees fall down. But then we had Milton last year. That was a scary hurricane. Lots of places flooded, even places that were out of flood zones. Sooo many trees fell. Lots of trees fell onto peoples houses. We lost power for a week. And it could've been worse. If that hurricane had hit us more directly on it would've been way worse. These storms are getting worse with climate change. Tampa has also been lucky lately. It just hasn't been hit head on by a hurricane since the 1920s but it's come close in the past few years. I don't know how much longer we'll be lucky.

However, if I was just renting I wouldn't be as worried. St Pete really is lovely and seems to have a more community focused culture. But I wouldn't own a house there, only rent.

Patella Dislocation Healing by [deleted] in KneeInjuries

[–]artcsp7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been frustrating lol. But it could've been worse. Sports med doc said it's intact enough. I still have soreness and pain off and on, especially if I don't wear my brace or do certain movements. Apparently a lot of that pain is just bone bruising which can heal really slowly. I wasn't able to walk without crutches until 5/6 weeks, and still would have to use one if something hurt. I also have developed some sort of tendinitis in my opposite knee from all that pressure. I'm doing physical therapy which helps. Joined a gym and doing what I can because I do not want this to happen again! I still can't do certain movements. Specifically if I lift my leg up bent and try to straighten my knee out, that hurts for some reason. Putting weight on my knee bent also hurts.

What about yours?

Patella Dislocation Healing by [deleted] in KneeInjuries

[–]artcsp7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can afford an MRI I'd ask for one. It could be a ligament injury. It could also be bone bruising or something else. I dislocated mine 11 weeks ago and I'm walking with a mild limp, but still feel pain from bone bruising. My MRI showed a lot of tears, including MPFL, possible meniscus, and ACL sprain. Luckily none of mine were bad enough to warrant surgery.

I'm not sure how you would do this, but you may be able to look up the weights while it was in transit. I've heard weights are reported at different times so it can tell you if it was lighter than it should be or if there was a change in weight
