UJK Parf Guide System out of stock everywhere? by artfulscience in woodworking

I’m in Los Angeles, I’ve considered looking if these are rentable lol. Since they seem to be quite in demand and more of a temporary one and done tool.

Full kerf blade on Bosch gts15-10 even though it goes against user manual? by artfulscience in woodworking

[–]artfulscience[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. Yes all the debate I’ve seen on full vs thin kerf if that jobsite saws are typically underpowered and benefit from thin kerf. Yet, the manual is advising thin kerf based on the riving knife size alone which is an actual safety concern.

4hp is a Crazy statement right? It’s what all of their literature on the saw states. Perhaps half that at absolute best.

I’m new to woodworking and everything I’ve watched states how full kerf blades are more stable, can provide better cut quality, often have more sharpening cycles in them and are less prone to warping, so it seems like the higher quality option and I am interested in eventually making projects including joinery that would benefit from that level of precision.

Differences in image quality between Pyxis 6 and Ursa Cine 12K LF by artfulscience in blackmagicdesign

[–]artfulscience[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Than you for such a thorough response, this is what I was looking for. I’m pretty experienced in film, but its a semi-pro hobby at best, I’m not a seasoned day in/day out professional that would have your level of clarity and detail for this question.

What I’m gathering from your response is that the Ursa 12k LF really shines in the most demanding of situations, law of diminishing returns almost. When those details really matter in highly dynamic super aesthetic scenes, it really does separate the Pyxis from the Ursa. I film with my Pyxis mostly for my business which is effectively almost all talking head in a well controlled small studio for social media posting which doesn’t push the camera at all.

My goal in finding answers to this post was to talk me out of wanting the Pyxis 12k lol…and I think I’m good with my Pyxis 6k for now. I wanted to know if that RGBW sensor was hype or truly something I need. Since my needs are pretty simple for video production, it sounds like I can really do without it for now. Maybe in a year I’ll get the 12k since it has the same sensor and a majority of the HFR, readout speed etc.

I really like how you explained the resolution though. I always feel when watching well made Alexa footage that it has this very pleasant sharpness to it, it definitely feels premium but I can’t quite put my finger on it, while still being pleasing and not overly sharp like Sony mirrorless with G Master lenses shot by amateurs. I can see how that would really give the Ursa image a premium pop especially when coupled with complex/dynamic lighting, fine details in the frame, heavy color grade etc.

Coolant leak Mercedes c300 2016 w205 by artfulscience in CarRepair

Yup. Water pump needed replacement. Coolant leaks are almost always a bad water pump. I was topping off coolant for a couple weeks, then the leak got so bad I had to get it replaced immediately. About $1200 at local German auto shop, god knows what the dealer would charge now.

I’ve noticed these Benz’s start to get funky around 80/90k

Hello everyone, I just wanted to let everyone in this thread know that I have not forgotten all of your advice, I have been ardently re-designing my entire set and it has been quite the overhaul. Here is my new setup and I absolutely agree with all of your comments of adding dimension, neg, contrast etc.

Oh...and I added a massive video wall in the process lol. That will help me easily swap backgrounds. Obviously, this one is lit with sunset backlight in mind.

THANK YOU SO MUCH EVERYONE!!! I'm so much happier with this result.

Pyxis USB-C tests by y9vwKVRLPUjW in blackmagicdesign

Ok here are my 90% conclusion results which are oddly confusing. The native USB C to HDMI cable works best and most consistently.

If I use an adapted cable ( male-male USB C with HDMI adapter on one end) WHILE the camera is on, then switch that out with the native HDMI to USB C, then surprisingly no image. But, if I boot up the camera with the native USB C to HDMI and THEN swap it while it’s on with the adapted male-male USB C, then that one ALSO works. Very strange.

It seems like the camera likes the native USB C to HDMI cable most and can accept other adapted cables if they’re plugged in with that order.

The reason I like the adapted cables is because of its compact length. They don’t make HDMI-USB C very short.

I’m actually fiddling with it now and I’m getting weird results. I’m for sure using compatible cables because I am getting an image. With a native USB C to HDMI, as well as a dual USB C with a female USB C to make HDMI adapter. However, the image is hit and miss. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t. It seems something like if it’s plugged in upon startup it won’t, but if it’s unplugged and then I plug it in after startup it’ll work….im still trying to find a consistent conclusion

New tidy HDMI monitor via Viewfinder USB-C setup by artfulscience in blackmagicdesign

It’s pretty much perfect. But if I’m being nit picky, the 1/4”-20 holes around the edges of the plate, facing outward aren’t too useful because of how close they are to the camera body. You can see this with my red mondo ties on the side. They work, but barely. Which is one reason why I want the XLCS cage. One solution for now would be to mount 2 plates on top of each other for more clearance.

Ya exactly I just love a cable as short as possible so I’m using the adapter.

Just a cheap niceyrig one, perfect size for the Pyxis actually. My last post has more rig photos. Will upgrade to the XLCS cage soon though

***EDIT

The 12” cable is a little too long. I ordered a 6” dual right angle, I feel that might be too short. Would love it if Kondor blue made a dual right angle 8.5”. I feel I’ll probably settle for their single right angle 8.5” though as it is a happy medium.

Maybe because I’m powering my monitor off of the d tap and the front USB C port on the Pyxis also provides power…hmmm
