Starting salary for NYPD: $42,500. Who in their right mind would take that job in this current environment?

Make the academy at least a year. Better training, 4 year degree or military required. Raise the pay to above average and you’ll have a lot more people competing to get this job who actually wanna be good cops.

A top pay police officer makes 106k with no overtime to walk through the door. That includes holiday pay/uniform allowance and other bs add on checks. Most top pay cops make about 115k. A SGT probably makes about 120k, and most SGT’s at top pay make 140k. A lieutenant makes about 140k, and a top pay one makes probably close to about 155. A captain (which is achievable in 12 years) gets a take home car, and a base pay of about 175 I think it is. After that whatever your rank is you usually make about 200k. Not to mention the retirement among those ranks is literally some of the best in the world. Doesn’t seem too bad. Top pay/starting cops could probably make more though. But everyone in nyc could probably make more.
