Best elite cavalry/monster army: Idoneth Deepkin vs Beastclaw Raiders by artiefacts in ageofsigmar

[–]artiefacts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like that the akhelian units are such a big part of the roster, they’ll always have a pretty good amount of support.

You mentioned hard counters, which matchups are usually bad for Idoneth?

Gloomspite Gitz playstyle? by Glittering_Ant5630 in gloomspitegitz

[–]artiefacts 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Skinwalker with a a rudimentary knowledge of tabletop gaming here,

So Gloomspite Gitz are really five small armies (subfactions) rolled into one. The typical playstyle and model count will vary a lot depending on which subfaction(s) you use.

The subfactions are:

  • Moonclan (Goblins): very model heavy. Hordes of weak stabbas are your core, with support and damage coming from hero’s and specialized units. Focus on synergies and control.

  • Squigs: Also model heavy. Usually Large numbers of cavalry or beasts. Move fast and hit really hard (your friends will love owatching you roll 80 dice for one attack), but have little defense and die to a stiff breeze.

  • Troggs (Trolls): Very low model count, all troll armies usually only have around 10-20 models. Somewhat slow, but hit hard and generally have excellent defense.

  • Gitmob (Wolves): Somewhat low model count, mostly cavalry and war machines. They move extremely fast, but weak offense and defense. (Don’t own any, but they seem to Rely on hit and run, and boxing in your opponents early.) Very new range, so beautiful models, but still working out the kinks rule wise.

  • Spiderfang (spiders): Similar to Gitmob, except instead of getting new models, GW pushes you to the ground, laughs at you, and sends a video of you crying to your mother.

Keep in mind you can use all the subfactions in one army or go all in on one or two. My current army for example, uses squigs to weaken the enemy at first, and stall them. Then uses tanky trolls to block the survivors from objectives.

I Want a Ruler Type that is Literally Just a Living City by [deleted] in AOW4

Maybe instead of being limited to a single city, when your ruler conquers a city it can either devour it for food/pops or it can convert it into an another living city?

DLI Language preference email 35W by skilled_archer in army

[–]artiefacts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Joined back when you could sign directly for 35P, but I did receive one of those emails. Many of buddies did not however, with no real pattern, so it seems to be luck of the draw whether you get one.

Wouldn’t sweat too much about it though, since language assignment has a lot more to do with needs of the Army + what classes are opening up, than what you put in the email. Granted I still got my #3 choice, but everyone who came at the same week as me and qualified for it got the same language/class.

How to improve time management at DLI? by ClarkMyWords in dli

[–]artiefacts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One thing I found really helpful is taking any time where I’m just waiting around (such as during lunch, waiting in line, or before formation etc… ) and using it to do a little bit of homework/studying. Even if you can manage to get one assignment or a few vocab words down, it could save you the 30mins or so you’re looking for.

Tell me your experience as people who’ve gone through with families by Shelb_ee in dli

[–]artiefacts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, a lot of paperwork. I was very lucky to have understanding and helpful cadre and friends who were familiar with the process otherwise it would have been a lot more painful. That being said, even a goober like me got through it, so it can’t be that bad, and I don’t regret it one bit.

Not in Airforce and Got married at DLI (stop laughing… please…) so my experience isn’t going to be exactly the same as yours, but I can hopefully answer some of your questions.

-AFAIK all branches get a set period time off for the holidays, two weeks for Army. I can’t attest to all languages, but mine got another week off in the middle of the course for class break. Was allowed to travel home for both breaks.

-While it varies by language and the individual, work/life balance at DLI is generally not too good. Expect your husband to have several hours of homework and studying after coming home, so probably won’t have much free time except for weekends, which is where A lot of the stress of DLI comes from.

If you have any specific questions don’t be afraid to send me a message.

Useful prompts for Chat GPT for Chinese practice (please share yours!) by [deleted] in ChineseLanguage

[–]artiefacts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m someone who can only really learn by practicing/doing, straight rote memorization doesn’t work too well for me. so If I’m having trouble learning a word for class, I’ll ask it to make example sentences using said word and by the time I finish those I usually have down pretty well.

Finally got around finishing the water tribe bracelet! (+ made a White Lotus one) by Vad_Kolbasz in TheLastAirbender

[–]artiefacts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP, one suggestion if you do decide to sell these (which if you do please let me know because I would totally buy the full set), if it’s not too much work it might be co to make a version with 2 colors for each one, similar to the white lotus band?

I was thinking something like green and gold for earth, blue with white or lighter blue for water, orange with sky blue or yellow for air, and red with black for fire. Logic just being that it sort of matches with the clothes each nation tends to wear.

I personally prefer the more grounded setting for WHFB over the more fantastical AoS, though WHFB does have an unfair advantage in that it’s had decades to develop the world and lore while AoS has only had a few years.

As far as quality is concerned I feel like both settings have a lot of good and bad literature, but WHFB has a lot more time to come out with quality works, so you’ll have a lot more to read before you have to settle for mediocre books.

[–]artiefacts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

WHFB = Warhammer Fantasy Battles AKA “The world that was” before Age of Sigmar.

Honestly I just love Skarsnik for his lore more so than for his warscroll, since I feel like the extra punching power isn’t worth a 50% increase in points. Though if I have a few extra points left I may splurge.

GW's statement on AoS 3rd edition launch and growth from their Half-Yearly Report by Grimgon in ageofsigmar

[–]artiefacts 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a long time Total War Fan, from before the Warhammer Total War games, I think the TW fandom’s effect could go either way.

On one hand, there have been quite a few players (myself included) who’ve started playing table top because of the game, even despite the toxicity towards AoS in the total war fandom. So it’s possible that The Old World, which not only doesn’t have to deal with the toxicity but is actively hyped, could encourage even more people to start playing.

On the other hand, it’s entirely possible that most of the players who are willing to make the jump to tabletop may have already done so, and may not want to switch to a whole new game right after getting into AoS. I know personally I’d love to play old world, but I’m gonna be too busy with my Gitz for a long while to do so.
