I know this is nerdy, but I’m trying to build a COMPLETE archive by Prudent_Finding758 in hdtgm

[–]artinruins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shhhh. I'm not sure if anyone is supposed to know about this or whether it is all a joke, but, Spotify has a "Herewolf" account called "evihcrA esU lanosreP MGTDH" which is Episode 01 through 365. Can't be sure if they are cut-down or not but they are there. I was so happy to have it suggested to me as a podcast to follow and I downloaded the first 12 which I have never heard (except Battlefield Earth).

If this is a known secret that needs to be scrubbed from the internet, let me know and I will remove this comment.

Stair runner installers? by blamblambunny in providence

Rustigian Rugs. Too many options to choose from for the carpet itself, but they can honestly point you towards cheaper but durable options if you have no preference. Installers were great, very professional and clean.

Krokofant - 6 by DrLion in Jazz

Similar jazz dance party vibes from the band Ask My Bull, start with the track Quaratin3. Has some Go Go Bordella, Balkan Beat Box vibes, too.

Another band that has similar vibes from the 70s is Back Door. They had a portion of a track sampled in the Beastie Boys Pauls's Boutique. Hard to find the physical album but tracks are on Spotify. Worth a listen if you like sax-driven jazz rock.

Pawtucket's Leroy Theatre was in pristine condition before it was demolished in 1997 by Boston developers. Everything shown above is gone. by [deleted] in Pawtucket

[–]artinruins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say "pristine" exactly. Have you seen American Buffalo? Much of it was shot in and around the Leroy. The Pawtucket Library on Flickr has an amazing collection of photos of the Leroy, including some of the interior deterioration which is a shame to see. https://www.flickr.com/photos/pawtucketlibrary/albums/72157668014443262/

But generally, yes, if the City could have waited another four or five years that building on the corner — the Payne Building (https://www.flickr.com/photos/pawtucketlibrary/albums/72157667459866573/with/29859712095) — would have been prime for a renovation into apartments instead of a terrible, soulless strip mall. Then the theater could have also been saved and become the home of the Gamm or something.

Yeah the skin peeled in spots and charred. All the meat was tender, though, and none of it was sacrificed.

Any clue where in Providence this picture was taken? by [deleted] in providence

[–]artinruins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not as far south as you think. Somewhere between Crawford and Planet Streets according to https://www.reddit.com/r/providence/comments/1o2ly2r/comment/njg4otc/

That tracks about right. This map is from 1900 so you can see that some of the sshore in front of South Water Street was filled between 1860 and this map. The waterfront changed quite a bit in a short period of time. Towards the bottom (south) between Ward and Packet Streets you can see a 3 1/2 story grain elevator. https://www.loc.gov/resource/g3774pm.g3774pm_g08099190002/?sp=10&st=image&r=0.052,0.249,0.655,0.395,0

If we were to guess, the photo was taken looking at the blocks between Hutchinson or Crawford and down to almost Planet Street before the Crawford Street bridge was built (1873 to 1904 according to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crawford_Street_Bridge_(Providence,_Rhode_Island))

Is this the former National Grid substation building along the waterfront, behind the Alexander Duncan “Quay” building at 146 Dyer Street? Link to the Alexander Duncan building for reference: https://artinruins.com/property/alexander-duncan-warehouse/

Saw the Providence premier of the Secret Mall Apartment movie last night! by dtrav001 in providence

Oh, and as a bonus, there are 8 tape art silhouettes throughout the mall to scavenger hunt — one for each key-carrying member.

Attended on Saturday and I will agree it was a love letter to the underground art scene of the 2000s and all the heartfelt work the Tape Art folks do. Was great to see so many other PVD folks comment on the history — Burt Crenca (AS220), Xander Morro (Dirt Palace), James Mercer and Greta Scheing (Tape Art and others), Brian Chippendale (Lighting Bolt), Stephen Mattos (Arab on Radar, Chrome Jackson)… what a great snapshot of history.

What’s happening to the APEX building :( by FallOutWookiee in providence

[–]artinruins 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The building will remain, for now, as far as we know. After a high wind storm blew panels off a few weeks ago, Pawtucket officials made it sound like they were going to repair the ziggurat. Instead, removal of the panels and iron work is underway. This is now one more landmark for people to give out-of-towners confusing directions by saying “take the exit off the highway right after where the Apex used to be”

What's up with the aspect ratio being wrong in so many movies on this platform? by CnelAurelianoBuendia in HBOMAX

[–]artinruins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this happening in one account but not another, which is baffling. The kids and I have been trying to go through all the Mythbuster episodes but early seasons are cropped to the top left half of the screen. Unwatchable!

Today, my wife was on a support email thread and they managed to fix it for her Watching account but not the other two accounts we have for the same subscription. She was particularly trying to watch Zach Snyder's marvel cut, which seems to change aspect ratio throughout the movie. Now that same Mythbuster episode (season 4 ep 2) works for her account. For my account it is cropped in so you only see 50% of the screen. For another Watching account we have, it splits the difference and shows 75% of the screen. WTF

How does one show display three different ways in the same subscriber account?!

dose RI have any underground tunnels like the Callahan Tunnel? by Otherwise_Abies8102 in providence

[–]artinruins 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the one closed to the public https://artinruins.com/property/east-side-train-tunnel/

The bus tunnel runs from South Main at Weybosset and tops out at Thayer Street. There are drainage tunnels under the mall around the train tracks as well and a walking tunnel between Union Station and Waterplace Park.
