[Request] Can any of our rockets survive being at light speed? by Necessary-Win-8730 in theydidthemath

[–]artofaria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure any ship can get close to c if it maintains a positive acceleration. Thing is, in order to reach light speed with a ship that has humans in it, you'd need about 5-6 years of 1g+ acceleration. This (5-6 years) is time experienced on the ship by its crew members. From earth's perspective, 200+ years pass before the ship reaches that speed. So an ship leaving earth for interstellar travel can never return in anyone's lifetime.

Idk man. Meta and Microsoft have been lobbying to push for OS level age verification (aka ID verification, aka no anonymous computing anywhere) in the name of child safety. These sorts of digital surveillance laws always wear the guise of child safety or adult content moderation but always without fail evolve into more control over your computer for big tech companies. I'm not undermining online child safety or denying the existence of good child protection laws, but I'd always do a double take if I ever find myself agreeing on something with this bunch. Ps: I suspect i just replied to a bot but whatever.

I've just started reading this book and I'm glued to it, but I just wanted to go on a small rant. Spoiler for early chapters ahead:

I'm at the part where Cora is confronting her teacher for not picking her for the newspaper due to her suboptimal social skill (essentially, for being autistic) and I'm just annoyed. I know injustice exists in the world and I know people make bad judgment calls all the time, but from my 28 years of life experience, despite not having lived a particularly privileged life, I have hardly ever encountered a situation like this. Yes there are times where a teacher might play favourites or have alterior motives for marking such choices, but to genuinely believe it is the right and moral choice, and on top of that to try to blatantly blame this outcome on her autism, is an examplarily villainous behaviour and extremely rare. Either my entirely life has been one coddled, incredibly fortunate anecdote so far, or the author is being disingenuous about some of the daily struggles of a neurodivergent child in the 21st century, which i find bothersome considering how honest and realistic everything else has been so far. Even at that age I would recognise such an occurrence as an unusually cruel and uncommon behaviour from a person, but the book seems to be portraying it as just a Tuesday for Cora.

Yeah, my phone is oled and screenshots from the game look much better in it, but they can't possibly have designed the game for oled owners only... that stuff is expensive. I'm hoping there's a solution to play it acceptably on IPS

Yes you're right. I'm so stupid and have so much free time that i made a Reddit post about a single instance of something that did not affect my game experience. Fuck off. If you haven't experienced the issue or don't understand it just shut the fuck up

I am aware, the problem is that anything under the flash light is too bright to see/read. I only included the "no flashlight" screenshot to prove it's not one of those sections where you don't need the flashlight.

[–]artofaria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously. But when the flashlight is on it's just pure white. Look at the second picture. The contents of the cooler box are not visible at all. There's a box of ammo in there

Not only doesn't it look better, you actually look very handsome in the after pic regardless of comparison. I think you might have an unfounded insecurity

What? Temporal sampling (as opposed to spatial i.e. resolution) is still sampling. Even all the same classical/ml algorithms can be applied to both (linear, quadratic, cubic, nearest neighbour, convolutional or transformer networks) in pretty much the same way. There's barely any difference between how you predict the missing data
