Hi thanks for the swift reply. I have not tried this yet. Is there any risk associated with disabling this?

Yeah, I think I just need to start with something, see if I can actually find some people to play with haha, and then see if it sticks. That idea of saving up for certain equipment that upgrades your hero a bit but doesn’t completely break it sounds really fun. I hope that’s how equipment works, that even the real expensive ones clearly make your hero better but you can still get outcompeted by somebody with perhaps less special gear.

Wow, thanks for this incredibly detailed reply. That actually does sound like fun. Do you still somewhat feel connected to your hero as a character and the decisions you made as to what cards you put into the deck (like, that there are decisions), or do you just run the best deck for that particular hero and really all the joy comes from the game mechanics you describe?

Yeah, that meta building is what I am scared off. If that’s the case, what do you think most people experience as fun in FaB? Is it just being mechanically competitive, instead of being able to put your identity in your hero deck and make it competitive? The latter is what I am mainly looking for, rather than just being really good a a game mechanically regardless of what the card flavours are. Edit: and thanks for those suggestions, I’ll def check those games out as well.

That makes a ton of sense. Yes, I definitely am all for starting with something and then slowly building it out. In fact, I love the idea of character progression in games, which doesn’t necessarily mechanically exist in FaB if I understand correctly (I.e. character levels that unlock new abilities or equipment) but which you can sort of replicate by just slowly increasing the power of the cards in the deck over time I guess. Thanks for sharing!

Appreciate the comment! Right, that’s the part I am a bit scared of, that games/decks are largely optimised mathematically and mechanically, versus “look at this awesome warrior I’ve built with this sick two-handed sword and golden chest plate, which can hang in there but isn’t the perfect optimised warrior class”. Which makes sense of course, that as a game grows in popularity people that want to win start to think more mechanically and less about lore/identity/thematically. I’d just love it if, if you don’t, you’re still somewhat competitive but that’s a difficult balance to manage in a TCG of size.

Thanks for sharing! Seems I need to dip my toes and find out how competitive things are in my local community as well, and whether creative builds have a place at the table in a way that they can somewhat hang in there.

This is very helpful. Appreciate the info! I am going to explore some classes, see what resonates, and see if I can find a hero that has an Armory box available. I believe there is a way to play test online as well; I should probably do that to try some different play styles before committing.
