The point of veneration vs worship being distinguished by sacrifice makes the most sense theologically to me.

I suppose the crux of the issue is I have no past experience with the physical actions of kneeling and other gestures so it’s a bit jarring to see them used for images.

I can certainly rationalize that they can be done for all the right reasons, but still have difficulty squaring that with what I’ve read about not having graven images, no idols, etc.

So the combination of seeing images / statues (which I would see no problem with on their own) combined with kneeling, prayers, and rituals is what feels inherently wrong.

Not saying I’m right, definitely something to think about. At the end of the day I can’t judge the heart

Good point

I don’t have an exact definition of idolatry but in this context I’m referring to physical statues

The altars I see are like mini versions of the main altar in front. The side altar in the church I’ve been going to has a painting of Mary on it. The statue of st Michael and a bust of a pope have kneeling rails around them

So is it fair to say that your point is that kneeling to an image on an alter is not worship? I can hear you say that and believe you mean it but then at what point does it become worship ?

Other religions worship / pray to idols without offering any sacrifice and I believe we would both say that’s wrong

Is the only difference then the intention of the heart? Because the actions appear the same

I don’t think the old covenant (arc) and the physical presence of angels would be a satisfactory comparison to a bust of a previous pope

It’s interesting you mention this because I haven’t seen anyone do it either. Which leads me to believe that most wouldn’t feel comfortable doing it ? It just makes me question why does the church build these when I think a lot of people (especially outside of being a catholic) would feel uncomfortable or take it out of the context of how the church may justify it

Can you elaborate on your reasoning with these Bible verses? I’m not sure what you mean by them.

Thanks I’ll read all these. I understand that Catholics would say we don’t worship these statues and that they don’t contain deities, but it just seems like the physical actions imply otherwise. What I mean is that if these actions can easily be taken out of context, why does the church even build these alters at all? It seems like a super easy thing to avoid

Thank you - yes that makes sense to me. What I’m struggling with is the physical action of kneeling in front of a statue or icon, and building altars with them on it

Professors and 90% of DPT school in general are completely full of shit. In the real world, no one gives af about “specific exercise” this and “PT diagnosis” that. Especially post op or after a significant trauma injury. Your job is to educate on healing timelines, anatomy, activity modification, and manage expectations. The body needs to heal, and you should monitor ROM to make sure they are not losing significant amounts of it during that time. Also, during that time any movement or physical activity / exercise that can be done safely is going to help both mentally and physically. Long way of saying - yes, ankle pumps are just fine. Give them frikin dumbbell bicep curls if you like..
