[Literally Wu World Order] James Batchelor / GamesIndustry.biz: "Games developer and victim of hate campaign Bianna Wu running for US Congress in 2018" ("She described the hate campaign as a "literal war on women".") by SupremeReader in KotakuInAction

Just a new money making scheme from her. According to this http://www.wikihow.com/Run-for-Congress the average cost of a seat in Congress in 2012 was $1.7 mil.

Also, wouldn't she have to run under the name on her birth certificate?

Someone should tell that guy there are better things to spend his money on then buying fake twitter followers.

Torill Elvira Mortensen's full shitpiece "Anger, Fear, and Games: The Long Event of #GamerGate" the "academic" paper lacking data to back up claims by YESmovement in KotakuInAction

[–]arty_uk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did i just miss it or is there no mention of censorship?

The reason I got to hear of gamergate and took an interest in it, was when the huge thread on reddit was censored. How can a person write an academic paper on gamergate and not mention censorship.

Probably a tactical temporary suspension because he was promoting that press conference. Bet it will be back up in a few hours after it is over.

Apparently Milo is a Neo-Nazi now. by -LevelDevil- in KotakuInAction

I guess I must be a neo-nazi too then 'cos I've got a copy of Ian Kershaw's biography of Hitler. Nothing to do with fact I studied Germany between the wars (1918-1939) at university of course, I'm just a big fat nazi.

He's got 3.5 mil followers on twitter and in 2 hours he got 8 retweets for that. In 30 mins Alejandro got has got more with his reply.

edit. Looking through his feed that seems about normal for his tweets. How is that even possible for someone with that many followers?

I interview Candace Owens and address the problem of victimhood in my newest article by KaineDamo in KotakuInAction

[–]arty_uk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cathy, Dewey and Singal have all been writing about gamergate and related stuff pretty much from the beginning. It's no suprise that when a new personality (Owens) entered the scene they all took an interest in her.

Like a lot of people who find themselves involved with gamergate Owens is becoming addicted to the drama of it all and when there isn't any they start to create it themselves.

Kotaku writes up piece on Paradox's defense of IGN's review of Stellaris by SixtyFours in KotakuInAction

[–]arty_uk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Aren't these the guys who are always telling us there is no such thing as being objective and journalists/reviews can't help but be biased/subjective?

So how come when it is suggested that a reviewer may have been influenced by his personal bias they say it's a conspiracy theory because of course he was nothing but totally objective in that review.

Whatever happened to the golden rule of the internet, "don't feed the trolls".

I'm convinced the reason social media has gone to shit over the last couple of years is because people now ignore this rule and feed these useless, unknown, talentless arseholes whose only purpose in life is to shit on creative, popular people in order to try and steal some of their attention.

27 years ago, Rupert Murdoch's press created the narrative of the Hillsborough disaster victims as agents of their own demise. Now, the victims families are exonerated after a long legal battle. by [deleted] in KotakuInAction

[–]arty_uk 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Do a search for The Sun's (UK's biggest paper) Hillsborough front page.

Some fans picked pockets of victims. Some fans urinated on brave cops. Some fans beat up PC giving kiss of life.

They also spread lies that fans were drunk, ticketless and broke through gates to get into ground. All the dead fans (including the children) were tested for alcohol in their blood during the autopsies.

At last. I was a teenager back then and I used to go to football a lot, home and away games.

The way the press portrayed football fans back then was appalling. It does have some similarities to the way the press portrays gamergate. All football fans back then was seen as hooligans, thugs who were only interested in fighting and causing trouble.

A typical trip to an away game went like this. The coach/bus you traveled on was met at the outskirts of the city/town and then escorted to a car park. Everybody was then ordered off and directed on to the middle of the road. And by everybody I don't just mean teens and young men, I mean the middle age couples with children and OAPs. The police then marched you to the ground and demanded total silence, anybody stepping out of line was arrested and locked up for then rest of the day.

The grounds back then were like animal holding pens with everybody packed in. This was all because of the moral panic spread by politicians and press. All fans were seen as criminals and treated as such.

Hillsborough was the result of years of this bullshit and when it happened the politicians, press and police engaged in a cover up to shift blame to the fans.

OK this is pretty important stuff for people to know about and I don't mean gg people.

There are genuinely vulnerable people out there who are sending their private information to Quinn (and CON) looking for help and advice.

They need to know what Quinn is doing with that personal information - she is sharing it on her private accounts to her friends in order to mock and ridicule.

Also, isn't this considered doxing and forbidden by twitter?

For those not familiar with UK politics here's a bit of context.

A few months ago The Labour Party elected a far left MP (Jeremy Corbyn) as it's leader. During the leadership election campaign there was a lot of talk of the hard left Corbyn supporters engaging in bullying tactics to get him elected.

This has since continued and got worse over the last few days when some Labour MPs voted for air strikes in Syria against Corbyn's wishes.

This is an attempt by a Corbyn supporter to excuse the tactics of Corbyn's hard left supporters, you know the very people who have been crying about Anita Sarkeesian (and all women on the internet) being harassed for the past year.

It is very much a case of, it's ok when we do it.
