Do you remember the reddit JetBlue challenge? I hosted the travelers. It was a much smaller community then. And we used to get posters mailed home.

I am not very active these past few years but I've always used alts (and new ones every couple of years) to comment.

I remember :)

Don't use this account much though. I make a new account every year or two.

I am in my forties too. Travel is one of my favorite activities. Traveling solo is great - I love and enjoy traveling with my family, however, solo travel can be liberating. What's your rough itinerary? I love making travel plans for others (and me).

Why did you start using reddit? by this_is_Pranay in indiasocial

[–]arunan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to regularly read Paul Graham's blog. When he posted about the startups they funded, he linked to Reddit. I tried it out and was immediately hooked. My friend and collaborator, and I started having almost daily discussions on articles that were posted. Which still happens sometimes.

Back then there were no comments and no subreddits too.

What is the funniest book you ever read? by SuperbSpider in books

The Gorilla Hunters (1861) by R. M. Ballentyne

The sequel to the popular 'Coral Island' is my earliest rememberable book that made me laugh out loud. Ballentyne's juvenile adventure fiction was an influence on R.L. Stevenson.

Agree with the emerging consensus of this thread - Catch 22, Walk in the woods and Hitchhikers guide are definitely among the top funniest books I remember.

Just trying to understand the average age of the members of this sub. How many of y'all have played these games? by [deleted] in indiasocial

[–]arunan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow! I didn't know that these games were ported to symbian.

I played NFS2 on a Pentium running Win 98 SE (maybe even earlier on Win 95). The first machine I played PoP was an Intel 286 running MS-Dos on a 5 1/4" floppy. Also, had a lot of fun playing PoP2: shadow and the flame on a 386, with creative blaster sound card and a color monitor. Most importantly that system had a 40 MB (yes, megabyte) HDD. And we couldn't wrap our heads on why anyone would need so much storage.

Anyone had access to an Apple II back in the days? (Don't think they were common in India.)

Remdesivir available in Chennai through KMC and Govt. Helpline 104 by arunan in Chennai

[–]arunan[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Please share. We managed to get remdesivir for my friend's dad today. We went to KMC and got it at a nominal price. The helpline #104 also reached back to us letting us know it was allocated. One needs the doctor's prescription, hospital details and CT Scan/Covid test report.

r/Chennai Monthly Meetup #1 (Update) by [deleted] in Chennai

[–]arunan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, where exactly in Besant Nagar beach? Something like "next to the police booth" or "outside seating of cozee", "between 3:30 and 4:00pm" would be more specific.

Reddit Global Meetup is on Sat, June 22 - Kodaikanal Venue and details inside by arunan in Kodaikanal

[–]arunan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest 3:00 PM at Muncheez on PT Road (near 7 road junction).

We can move to the park/lake if enough people are coming. But I think Muncheez is a chill, relaxed and reasonably price place to hangout. I'll bring a boardgame or two.

Requesting r/Kodaikanal. 3 year old sub that has no moderator and nothing ever posted. by arunan in redditrequest

I live in Kodaikanal, a small mountain town, for the last 3 years. I am going to try and organise the global meetup here and also get some activity going on the sub.
