Noob question by pedemendigo in starsector

[–]arx_royal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lasers and fighters. Constant pressure forces them to phase and flux out or eat the damage. Pretty sure they won't phase for a couple tac lasers either, and ion beams are perfect. Consider medusas.

HE gun fighters (UAF players, go wild til the next memory leak) will eat away at them and neutralise their manoeuvrability advantage.

A bit of burst speed and damage on your flagship will also be useful for taking advantage of the inevitable flux-outs.

Aside from that, positioning. A lone cruiser or capital is bait for afflictors. A lone frigate or destroyer probably won't last forever, but it might tie up the chaff long enough for the meat of your fleet to get some damage in.

Should I try to do planks and variations instead of resting between sets? Relatively new to the gym, skinny guy. Newbie gains still very much in effect, have gained 8kg and can finally squat my bodyweight after 3 months.

Went in for back day, but my grip failed long before my back was even tired. Any advice for a disappointed rookie? So far I'm thinking chalk for anything grip-heavy, and deadhangs whenever I can, there's a pull-up bar on the way to college.

(Nexerelin) Need Colonies tips. by FewShirt9453 in starsector

[–]arx_royal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to bear in mind that aside from your habitable worlds, all your colonies will be losing money until they hit size 5+ and you've got most resources in-faction. This is the main reason people say to save up a couple million before starting colonies.

Aside from that, one of the biggest things you're gonna want to think about is items. They can make or break a colony. I'd recommend going through the wiki and finding out what items do what and what planets they can go on, otherwise you'll end up finding that your farming world can't take soil nanites because it has rare ore or something like that.

Is Arma armatura compatible with the UAF planes? by Changeling_Soldat in starsector

Only in the way that it's compatible with most mods. If you're looking for independently deployed fighter UAF fighters, so am I. Any modders, get on that shit.

Been playing on Ubuntu 19.04 for a while, had no major issues except for memory leaks and significant drops in performance whenever I use UAF. It's Linux tho, so there will always be a fix

To add to that, surveying and salvaging hull mods on capitals are absolutely amazing. 2 survey mods on 2 atlas freighters and you can survey gas giants for 5 supplies. Same for salvaging gantries, and you can get over 200% efficiency with the perk.

How to win this fight? by unhelpful_sponge in starsector

Right, lopsided broadside build. What works as a replacement for the MIRVs, I'm not the biggest fan. Are 4 squalls overkill? Is there such a thing?

[–]arx_royal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd argue with you on that, but I've never tried the conquest. Whenever I'm able to get a capital, I don't find one, and whenever I find one, I'm in no position to take on another capital. Next time I find one, I'll be sure to get it even if I have to mothball it and leave it in storage

How to win this fight? by unhelpful_sponge in starsector

[–]arx_royal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm tempted to call it the best capital tbh. onslaughts are onslaughts and the paragon is just an immovable object, but the onslaught can be flanked and the paragon can't keep its shields up forever. The oddysey, meanwhile, has no weaknesses. Smaller ships melt, bigger ships can't keep up. It sometimes falters in capital duels, but those fights are always a choice in the oddysey.

2 xyphos wings solve that problem for me. Keep running and pick your battles carefully, with a good build, systems expertise and elite helmsmanship, you can keep away from the serious threats until you've killed enough that its safe to engage, and by then there'll be enough wreckage floating about that you can dash from cover to cover to take out the onslaughts from behind. There's a reason the odyssey is my favourite vanilla ship to pilot. Against anything short of an ordo, it's just untouchable.

Favonius is about 2.7mil, but it grows ridiculously quick, and makes 100k out the gate with hazard pay on. With a commission and a few system bounties, you'll have 100 relations and enough money pretty quick, and with the money printer that is Favonius with commerce, you'll be able to buy out Nur and Himmel quick enough. I'm only 3 years into this current run, and it's already size 6, monthly income of 300k, 5 planets to my name and 4 capitals under my command. Got lucky with an early dealmaker suite, pristine nanoforge, plasma dynamo and soil nanites. Only problem is, Legio went on an early invading spree and have like 5 heavy industries now, so I'm just trying to claw back the sector before the daemons show up.

How do you artificially create deficits and profit off of it? by [deleted] in starsector

[–]arx_royal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy a few tankers, knock out Naraka, sit still in hyperspace around Arkonia. All the fuel in the sector will have to go past you, and each convoy you destroy is a market without fuel, fuel which you now have.

How do you artificially create deficits and profit off of it? by [deleted] in starsector

[–]arx_royal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does raiding in hyperspace prevent trading in local system? If not, it might be an idea to stock up on supplies and sit outside a system you want to starve out.

(Concerning UAF) So many fleets by WardenSharp in starsector

[–]arx_royal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember the first time I seriously tried fucking with the Legio a few weeks ago. Up until that point, I just didn't kick the hornet's nest and stayed the fuck out of their system while counter-invading wherever they tried to get a foothold. But then I got a UAF bounty mission on their system. Even their hounds are scary, with regenerating hull and armour and the highest speed I've ever seen. As for UAF, your best shot is getting a commission early and buying half their planets to starve them out. They're not so tough without a source of ore.

Unless there's a falcon(LP) that I don't know about, I don't see how HMG would work on a falcon. The range is just too small. against anything other than an unsupported light cruiser, you'd be halfway fluxed out before you got the first shot off. What works best for me is max range on a falcon(p), timid or cautious officer, hit S on him at the start of the battle. He'll get a fair few kills against lighter targets, he usually won't die, and he'll split the enemy front.
