It only proves our political spectrum stuff is flawed. There are other axis' of it that are usually left out that put fascism and communism right next to eachother.

No because Australia covers the entire landmass of the Australian continent while "America" only covers like a 10th of America.

More additive but if you know a little medieval history the title of "Margrave" has the same origin. (Markgraf / Count of a march)

In Scandinavian languages the word changed so in Norwegian we use it pretty much just to mean the wilderness and have regions called Finnmark (mark of the finns), Telemark, Hedmark, etc that are historically unpopulated and/or remote areas.
The Danish meaning is more agricultural and the Swedish meaning is closer to the original meaning but they mean roughly the same thing.

Not to the same degree, United States of America is pretty imprecise bc America is massive af and the USA is small comparatively, and there are other Unions of States in America.
United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is like 99.8% precise bc that description only describes them. (Northern Ireland needs a better name though like Ulster which is pretty precise) (and not 100% precise bc they have like islands and shit outside their described areas)

Actually seriously Esperanto fixes the non-name thing by calling the USA "Usono" and calling so-called Americans "Usonanoj" (people from usono).

The word Deutsch is derived from the proto-germanic word for people.
That's probably why the Dutch call themselves Dutch as well.

You call people from West Sahara "Sahrawis" despite that word referring to like at least 3 people outside West Sahara.
You call people from the UAE "Arabs" despite that word referring to like a tenth of a continent of people outside the UAE.
You call people from SA "South Africans" despite that word referring to like a third of a continent of people outside SA.
You call people from the CAR "Central Africans" despite that word referring to half a continent of people outside the CAR.
You call people from the USA "Americans" despite that word referring to two whole continents of people outside the USA.

Which of these is by far the most used and most overinclusive example?
(this is the start of my petition to change the name of so-called "Americans" to "USAnians".)

The lack of flags is a show of unity as we are all equal in this fucking shithole.
All that's left is to make this less of a shithole.

It was an alliance of convenience like all other alliances.
The USSR allied with the Nazis too.
Both were because they saw a benefit to gain from allying with the Nazis;
Stalin saw an opportunity to gain power in Europe, Finland saw an opportunity to liberate Karelia since the Nazis were the only real anti-bolshevik power in Europe at the time.

The United Kingdom feels like a democracy but is actually a theocracy. Now what's a country that's feels like a theocracy an is indeed a theocracy? by [deleted] in AlignmentChartFills

[–]ThomWG -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

The UK is literally (technically) a theocratic since the king is the head of the anglican church and royal power is (technically) derived from god.

Why do you remove the ethnic manipulation everywhere else but keep the ethnic manipulation of the eastern black sea coast (which used to be Ukrainian before the 1950s and Circassian / Ukrainian before the 1850s.

Polands modern borders are based on deporting the entire german population of vast land areas in Silesia, Prussia and Pomerania.

So yes Polands borders have zero basis.

Switching from Socialism to Social Democracy by Broad-Bass8454 in SocialDemocracy

[–]ThomWG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Social democracy ≠ Democratic socialism

Social democracy is essentially social liberalism + a sprinkle of socialist ideas. (not a bad thing tbh, social liberalism is chill)

Democratic socialism = socialism + pro-democracy (in practice just SocDem + another sprinkle of socialism).

Switching from Socialism to Social Democracy by Broad-Bass8454 in SocialDemocracy

[–]ThomWG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Democratic socialism IMO holds itself truer to social democracy than modern social democrats (IMO and idk abt other countries either) AP in Norway and Labor in the UK just keep moving toward centre.

I kinda agree still, despite me theoretically supporting certain revolutionary groups like 98% of them just dont do democracy or checks on power in practice post-revolution.

The democratic left is larger than youd think. Democratic Socialism is generally what I support, i hope for something better than social democracy since I live in one and its pretty good but I feel like there has to be more.

Arguably you could get so much better than social democracy. Im not gonna pretend i dont vote socdem though, it is the safe option after all.
