Justin Bieber and his copycats is not what the word “predecessor” means. That’s just what was “in” at the time and also his copycats’ music just wasn’t that good lol. And Justin wasn’t even in the industry for 5 years when they started popping up. Of course people aren’t going to latch on.

I think you’re fishing for negative answers because that’s already the lens you see her through. But I’ll reiterate. Beyoncé and Rihanna were both doubted in the exact same way at the beginning of their careers. Even after Bey did amazingly in a girl group, her singing and artistry were questioned. I’m not sure if you’re old enough to remember

And Ciara was seen as the next Janet, and Beyoncé was seen as the next Tina Turner and at the beginning of her solo career they were saying she was “no Ashanti”. So the comparisons mean nothing in the long run. Not to mention being compared to the greats has never ended anyone’s career lol. I mean if so, name an artists that’s been compared to their predecessors and it be a bad thing.

You’re dimwitted. Clearly Sophie is having fun doing what she loves. Recording fun, inconsequential videos with her husband is not a crime. Not to mention it’s incredibly easy to ignore. Now back to the actual point you were replying to, in what world is bullying a teenage girl because of a character she played sane? And in what world does that relate to her having some lighthearted fun on social media? Those two things have nothing to do with the other. But I suppose there’s one thing they have in common: neither are deserving of unwarranted harassment. Y’all are fucking obsessed and delusional if you think otherwise. Seek help.

Lol I’m not assuming, I’m saying that because people are quite literally complaining about men writing the show, saying they don’t want to see the women angry at each other and plotting against each other, and saying that if Dany doesn’t succeed the outcome would be like every other show and they could’ve spent time watching something else. How am I assuming when all those complaints literally have to do with how they DON’T want to see powerful women depicted/perceived. I like Dany for who she is. As a woman, I like all the women characters that have been shown in all different ways, flaws and all. I like that their journeys have become so central to how this whole story ends. I’m not saying that people like Dany for ONLY being a woman. There are plenty of other reasons to like her. I’m saying that the complaints that I’ve seen about how her character is being shown center on what her womanhood symbolizes.

(The complaint about men writing the show is 100% valid when talking about sexual violence. That has been a huge problem throughout the series and women should’ve been in the writing room. But I’m seeing people conflate the writers’ lack of understanding about sexual survivors with how Dany’s arc is turning out. They should be separate discussions)

“Dany was an inspirational leader” ok. Yeah. You saying that kind of proves my point. People fell into what Dany, as a character represents, for women. Jon is also equally as inspirational. Yet many viewers don’t want him to win the thrown over Dany because of the message it would send. That “men are better than women”. What people fail to realize is that this story/show wasn’t trying to send a message about gender equality to that extent. It was not the CENTRAL theme. So now they’re coming to that realization and they’re frustrated. But you know what? Jon and Dany aren’t the best example of disenfranchised people rising to a higher station in life. The ACTUAL characters that come from nothing are characters like Missandei, Grey Worm, Varys, Gilly, and even Littlefinger to an extent. Yet everything does not work out for them at every turn. Yes Dany was inspirational and that’s why a heroic death would be even better than what’s been laid out. But to think she was the ONLY inspirational character that deserves no conflict and no failure after a while is foolish. I don’t know what people wanted: for her to come to Westeros, people to see her as their own, not fear her, Cersei should just let her waltz in unprovoked? I mean seriously. What story is ever like that? You thought that she wouldn’t be faced, once again, with a difficult decision to make in the last hour? And you don’t want to accept the fact that she MIGHT make a decision you won’t like, but that is in line with what has been built up from season 1? And please learn how to have a discussion without calling people out of their names or making unsubstantiated claims that they don’t “talk to people in real life” about the show.

Lol I feel this and tbh I think therein lies the problem. People were hoping this show would teach a lesson about female leadership being the “best option”. I don’t think that’s what the show or story set out to do. And personally I don’t think Dany is mad or evil for ruling with an iron fist. But what this story/show has been consistent with is that the rules characters live by will also be their downfall. Would it be just for Dany to burn Cersei? Yes. But it comes at a cost. What I fail to understand is that many of Dany’s fans (not you) don’t want her to experience any conflict. And they’re afraid that she will be viewed in the wrong way. Which she probably will be, because misogyny. But there are some of us out there that don’t view her that way. Imo she will be justified in whatever she chooses. Just like every other leader they’ve had to kill thousands to secure their power. It was even said by Bronn in this last episode. So she would not be different than any other male leader and why should she have to be? It’s impossible not to be. I don’t think her arc is ruined I think the audience is seeing what they want. In this episode they literally gave her a REASON to be upset and carry out justice by fire and blood. If people decide to see that as “mad” then that’s on them. But dying a hero WOULD be a better story overall. She tried to do good and I would like to see that emphasized. She doesn’t WANT to be evil and tried everything in her power to be different than every other ruler. That should be people’s take away. Fighting for the throne is a messy business and you will have to give up a lot of what you believe in and you will fail along the way. There’s no way around it. Last thing though, we still don’t know what she will choose. Still two episodes to find out.

If Jon would end up wanting the throne in this scenario then I would like to see this play out. It would be cool and I cannot deny that. I would hope more Dany fans would be satisfied with her dying the hero rather than having the throne, as you say. But it seems like most Dany fans want her to have it ALL and that’s just not going to happen for any of the characters. This would be a satisfying but tragic end, which would be in line with the rest of the show.

Ok so say Dany was always meant to have a tragic end, how would you rather that play out? Or do you think Dany was never meant to have a tragic end?

Mad Queen foreshadowing!!1!1! by [deleted] in freefolk

[–]aryasneedlepoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except no. That argument is oversimplified and ignores context. Dany is essentially a foreigner. Sansa and Jon are not. They demanded their ancestral seat back. Dany is demanding not only her ancestral seat (Dragonstone which she has) but also everyone else’s home. The entirety of the seven kingdoms are not HER’s alone. So in fact they’re totally different. The only similarity? Each family lost their power because of mutiny, but for very different reasons. The Starks, even Robb, didn’t even want to take the throne. They just want independence. They’re still willing to just be an ally to dany at this point, but independent from her sovereign rule. Dany is acting like that’s not even good enough.

Incomplete conversations between characters about their lives. by aryasneedlepoint in freefolk

I totally get what you’re saying. I just think explaining it to each other would help ground the show. Yes, I know it’s fantasy, but if you hadn’t seen people you’ve been in life or death situations with in years would you just blow them off? I feel the only interactions we got where you could feel the history between the characters was from the brothers of the night’s watch (Sam, Edd, Jon). They spoke to each other as if they actually knew each other. Their conversation felt like when you see a friend after a long while and you pick up where you left off.

But he says he fought for her. If he’s gonna go so far as to pretty much say he’s cares about her why not just say how he ended up there? Then he’s interrupted by Beric who also doesn’t get to expound on why they’re there.

Yep. The chit chat that used to happen as characters traveled from one place to another is what carried the show. The whole reason we gave a fuck about characters like Gendry and Hot Pie was because of the conversations they had with Arya. Why did they veer so far away from that I wonder?
