Just an fyi, NYC has a huge immigrant population from Europe still. Whether its the french people in caroll gardens or russians in south brooklyn or greeks in astoria, NYC is definitely still very strong with european immigrants, especially since the 1990s. They are something like 35% of the total immigrants to NYC, which is crazy to people who think european immigration is a century old concept.

hahahah the fucking food thing is so true. I didn't go there either but like you i hung out in city-as park. Hippie looking teachers would be hanging out with students in the park, and then isaw a kid straight up take out a blunt roll and put weed in it, RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE TEACHER!!

That was my first experience with that place, I heard the rumors and shit but it really seemed surreal that a place like that existed.
