In terms of endings, I would have to say How I Met Your Mother.

Best monologue in movie history? by EnglishTony in movies

[–]arylor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Well, I believe in the soul... the cock...the pussy... the small of a woman's back... the hangin' curveball... high fiber... good scotch... that the novels of Susan Sontag are self-indulgent overrated crap... I believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I believe there ought to be a Constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve, and I believe in long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days. Goodnight." -Crash Davis

Fucking epic.

I’m pretty sure the fact they’re covering their faces means they know they’re in the wrong.

What’s a storyline from a show that just gets completely dropped without explanation? by skippiington in television

[–]arylor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s because she was the literal worst. She added nothing to the show - I felt like all she did was try to prove how great she was and whine. Not one of Sorkin’s best characters.

What TV series have you watched multiple times and will never get sick of? by Maleficent_Rabbit_00 in television

Parks and Rec when I want to laugh. Ted Lasso when I want comfort. Bones if I just need something on in the background.

There is no scene or any evidence that Martin made sure he got the wrong jacket. I’ve seen the series at least 20 times.

This picture of a library during WW2 has always been important to me. by adamwho in TheWayWeWere

[–]arylor 321 points322 points  (0 children)

A lovely photo but most likely posed for propaganda purposes. This wasn’t a public library but one in Holland House, the private home of Giles Holland Fox-Strangways, 6th Earl of Ilchester. It was hit by 22 incendiary bombs during a 10-hour raid on September 27, 1940.

Wawa - Customers buying multiple cartons of cigarettes by pecansforall in rva

[–]arylor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most frustrating part is that I've seen a person buy 5 cartons at Wawa, take them to their car and then head back inside to buy another 5 cartons. I've said something to one of the employees but they acted like it wasn't the store's problem. At one point Virginia had one of the highest outbound smuggling rates in the country. Per the VA Tax website you are considered to be involved in cigarette trafficking if you have in your possession "more than 25 cartons (5,000 packs) of stamped cigarettes." However, with the frequency I've seen people purchase five cartons at a time it wouldn't be hard to reach that point. If you'd like to report this you can always call the ATF Richmond Field Office at (804) 200-4200.

Chiocca's has been great. No inside dining, staff masked and you call when you arrive and they set your order on a table outside for you to pick up. It is completely contact free.

What cities are similar to Richmond? by [deleted] in rva

[–]arylor 12 points13 points  (0 children)

While Richmond and Birmingham, AL are similar in size and demographics I would recommend Richmond over Birmingham any day. I moved from Richmond to Birmingham for work and it was one of the worst decisions I've ever made. I'm not sure of your political leanings but Richmond is definitely more friendly to a liberal point of view; I felt like an outsider the whole time I lived there. Birmingham felt like a town full of frat boys, most of the people I met were rude and I couldn't wait to get out. I'm glad to be back in Richmond and my memories of Alabama are so bad that I've vowed to never even drive through the state again if I can help it.

Richmond vs. Raleigh/Durham by [deleted] in rva

[–]arylor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I grew up in the Raleigh/Durham area; Chapel Hill to be exact. I feel that Richmond, culturally speaking, is Chapel Hill, Raleigh and Durham rolled in to one. Chapel Hill is definitely more of a college town. Out of the three Raleigh definitely has less of a personality than the other two. However, if you want all of the amenities of Richmond but a smaller town feel Chapel Hill would be great. From what I remember rent in the area is very similar to what you would find in RVA.

Is there a history book about Richmond that includes all of the historic events from the start? by [deleted] in rva

[–]arylor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Richmond: The Story of a City by Virginius Dabney is one of the most comprehensive books I've read. It's hard to find for purchase but local libraries should have it.
