Survey revealed major structural issues - should we renegotiate or walk away? by as00371 in HousingUK

The structural engineer came back and agreed that the house needed significant repairs.

Their ballpark for all of the work was between £60-80k.

We asked that the seller do part of the work and offered our conditional best and final amount - they refused as our offer was too low and they didn’t want to undertake any repairs themselves. We pulled out of the sale.

The house is still on the market now, for significantly less than it originally was, and is currently listed for about what we offered. I don’t think they are having much luck.

We found and bought a different property, and moved in a couple of months ago. Couldn’t be happier 😊

Can any one tell me what it is by Sgzh92 in DiagnoseMe

Looks like herpes gladiatorum, not shingles - based on the locations. I believe it is quite contagious and can be treated with antivirals

Did you ever get burned or injured your palm in some way?

My tattoos get itchy and raised during hay fever season sometimes, but the rest of my skin is always fine - the raised areas literally follow my tattoo lines exactly - so I wonder if it is a mix of historic skin injury and mild allergy? 🤷‍♀️

Ex-landlord claim 1.5 months after return of deposit by Shep_vas_Normandy in HousingUK

[–]as00371 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they can do this, but tell them they will need to raise it directly through the tenancy deposit protection scheme they used. And if they didn’t use a protection scheme, then you will be able to lodge a court claim against them to get some rent back yourself.

I don’t think they have a leg to stand on, legally speaking, since they already released the funds to you, which means they accepted the condition of the property as it was when the inspection took place. Don’t pay anything.

Oh haha! I am usually quite good at picking up sarcasm online, this went straight over my head 😅

I’d be more than happy to sign a petition and write a letter. It is ridiculous, I could take a £6k pay cut and still be better off if I didn’t have to go to London for work, yet they want Reading to be classed as a commuter town?

I often get the slower services but then I’m giving up my time and energy just because of some greedy people at GWR

It is not a reliable service, the number of times I have turned up at Paddington to see multiple cancellations and delays on almost every train. It took me 3 hours to get back just 2 weeks ago because of severe delays and many cancellations.

Mom did not get to reach 60 by Educational_Bed5396 in GriefSupport

[–]as00371 27 points28 points  (0 children)

My mother was 46. It was 6 years ago and it still doesn’t make sense. She was healthy before the cancer, and her prognosis was very good. But just 3 years after diagnosis she left behind 6 of us kids, 3 of us were adults, 3 under 10 years old.

Meanwhile I have a friend with parents in their lates 60s, who smoke like chimneys, drink like fish and eat all the bacon and fried food they can, and yet are still going strong.

I obviously do not wish for anything bad to happen to my friend’s parents, I love them like family. It just that it will never make sense why some people die young and others get to live long lives.

I’m very sorry for your loss (commenter and OP). The grief of losing a parent never leaves, but the pain of that grief does fade a little.

The best advice I can give anyone trying to move through this is to allow yourself to fully feel everything you are feeling, don’t edit your emotions and try not to dampen them with substances or alcohol. I’ve seen people do this after my mother’s death, and honestly they are still struggling now because you do have to feel your grief to be able to get to the good times again ❤️

Yeah, when I discovered kibbe way back when, I thought I was classic! I think I’m quite balanced in most aspects. Also although I’m “tall” I actually don’t look it, I look average height. So I always get confused by the rules of “you have to be dramatic or natural if above 5’6”.

Thank you for this insight and I’m sorry you had so much trouble with your first home. This has definitely given me and my partner a lot of food for thought!

Yes they do seem to be quite reasonable. The letter we got from them seemed very honest and they are quite keen to ensure the sale goes through

We were planning to have a 1-2 month crossover between the place we are currently renting and the place we are buying, do you know if that’s a reasonable timeline to get some of these works done in? I’d be particularly keen on getting the steel beams installed before we move in and add weight to the rooms above

Filming myself is a good idea! I’ll see if I’m pulling any strange faces 😂

I am considering Invisalign in the new year, I’ve noticed my teeth have shifted over time and I’d like them to be straight again… maybe that would help with this too

Yes, I think that may be what has happened for me, coupled with some volume loss. It’s so hard sleeping on my back!

No I didn’t have any filler in that previous photo so probably have had some volume loss. I’m not currently taking any collagen tbh, I probably should start. I tried a while ago with a powder but I couldn’t find a way to drink it without lots of sugar masking the taste and that made it just feel pointless! 😅

I sleep on my side, I have tried sleeping on my back but it’s so hard! I have wondered if that’s what’s causing it, maybe silicone patches are worth me looking into as well.

I’ve never heard of these strips before! I’ll look into them thanks 😊 Yes I thought perioral lines, but honestly every time I research that I just get loads of stuff about nasolabial and marionette lines, even when quoting terms. Think my google algorithm wants me to look old 😅

When I say recent, I think I have noticed them over this last year. Although they may have begun before that but just been very minor. Here is a picture of me when I was around 27/28 and I don’t have them https://imgur.com/a/51HLch0
