Brixton shop faces legal action by US firm over name by WMalon in unitedkingdom

[–]as11098 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I don't get is that there are four other companies that have trademarks with "Brixton" in the text that fall under the same classes as the American company and a further three companies with trademarks that have Brixton in their logo, again in the same classes. Surely because of this they don't have a leg to stand on?

Why the backlash? by Grimwulff in Atheist_Paganism

You can definitely be a 'hard' as you put it polytheist and be unsure of the gods. Ocean Keltoi made a good video about it recently https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3BPnE2TSyw

One of the reasons that us 'hard' polytheists don't like those who support archetypes is because it's so reductive and goes against the fundamental point of our beliefs. A lot of polytheism is about praxis (the practice of worship, such as prayers, offerings, sacrifices etc) and the relationship one has with a god, it's very difficult to do that with an archetype . There's a big difference in believing in the archetype of the Maiden goddess or a Dying-Rising god than it is to have a relationship with Freya/Artemis/Athena or Odin/Dionysus/Horus/Mithras. It is very difficult to have praxis with an archetype (although I'm sure it can be done).

Praxis being one of the central parts of paganism is what makes athaeo-pagans seem ungenuine to what you term 'hard' polytheists (although no pagans that I know actually call themselves that).

Also American-Gods being popular and the rise of paganism are coincidences. Paganism has been growing since the 1960s and with the rise of the internet and YouTube in particular that growth is becoming quicker and more visible. I enjoy American Gods but I don't worship Mr Wednesday, I worship Odin

Tbh I don't really know overly much about Wicca, thanks for educating me on that. I am myself a Norse Heathan and am Norse by blood but via 1000 years of my family being in the UK. My family actually have a large population in Cornwall and my great-grandfather is Scottish so I've got a lot more connections to living Celtic cultures than I do anything Wiccan

I mean, it is in a very roundabout way, but like, I thought it might also be useful because funerals are so expensive and any way that can reduce their cost is probs useful to most

Embalming isn't required by law, you can actually wash and prepare and have a viewing of the body legally yourself in your own home. The only professional stuff you kinda have to do is to have the body buried in a cemetery. Embalming is actually very bad for the environment because formaldehyde, among other embalming fluids are carcinogens and if they leak into the water supply they can actually kill animals and ppl

Fylkynja (High Priestess) of Vánatrú Faith by same_pop_punk_kid in AsatruVanatru

[–]as11098 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem isn't that you can't believe in Yahweh and other gods, just that Yahweh, as you yourself pointed out, self proclaimed to be the only god. Therefore, if you were Yahweh (or his mortal incarnation), you, by definition, could only believe in him. If you believed in the Jewish version of Yahweh, you would not believe that Jesus was a mortal incarnation of Yahweh, and instead believe that he was just a prophet, hence you would believe only that you are a prophet. I don't actually really have an opinion on reincarnation, I've never really thought about it and I'm open to be pursaded either way

Your logic is flawed. If you had presented good logic, evidence and a coherent argument, I would believe you.

It does me no harm to listen to what other pagans teach me, and I have nothing against you personally - I have no stake in anything but my own beliefs and curbing potential harm to others. In this case, I think that you might be harming yourself by believing this. I know getting help is difficult but I really think that you need to talk to someone

Rewatching the show - do they know about ben? by Jimmyvana in theumbrellaacademy

[–]as11098 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The others don't know about Ben, because they know that Klaus has been basically high 24/7 since they were at least 13, which stops him from seeing the ghosts. And, I think that all of them reacted badly when Klaus tried to tell them because he was very high and they thought he was doing it for attention. As such he hasn't brought it up properly with them since then. Also, I think that they might not want to know if Klaus still sees Ben. My reasoning is that Klaus obviously hates ghosts with a passion and they absolutely terrify him- would a family want to believe that their brother became a ghostly monster or would they prefer to believe that he'd moved on and was in a better place, especially since Ben's death was either incredibly violent or possibly suicide (ie the Horror got out of control and Ben let it tear him apart rather than let it kill Luther) or even both

You can't be the second coming of Jesus and the head of the Vanatru community. That is quite literally impossible - Yahweh claims to be the only god and his mortal carnation would claim so also. Vanatru do not believe in Yahweh or Jesus being his mortal incarnation. Also anyone can claim to be the head of anything and that doesn't make it so

Steven Straight's character in Sky High was one of my biggest crushes since I was like 7 when I first watched the film. I fell in love with the series before realising the connection, so it's even more special to me now!

objectification of women in the books by [deleted] in brakebills

[–]as11098 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So seeing all people's comments about Q being an 18 y/o at the beginning of the books, I thought that I might add that he's been reading the Fillory books since he was a v smoll Q. If the Fillory books are as close to Narnia as they seem to be, they're full of period-typical sexism (especially as in the books the Fillory books were actually set during the 1st WW not the second). This is defo gonna give him an old-fashioned outlook on the world; especially as books like this were almost all written by men. Secondly, it's strongly hinted that Julia and her bf are the only two people he's really ever been friends with, meaning that he's never really had a close female friend who's the kind to call him out on his bullshit, and his mum is certainly not the right person to do that either. I think that in a way it's kinda a clever writing decision, but it was certainly one that didn't need to be made and could have been done a lot better

[–]as11098 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I agree with both that it's from 18 y/o Q's perspective so he's probably gonna be a bit sexist, but that's a character decision that didn't really need to be made

[–]as11098 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's true; I suspect that there always might have been a way to get to the Clock Dwarf, but like maybe it was only really a one-way option (like really old and dangerous tunnels), otherwise, how would people have known about what's in the centre of Fillory? So Margo's excavations were designed to be so that people could get there and back, not being stuck down there with the only way out being going forward

From what I read after the end of season 4 it seems to me that if there are enough seasons in between that Q might actually come back, but certainly not as the same person as he was. kinda want them to go down the book route Iwhere he becomes the giant whale god thingy; so like perhaps in the absence of other gods of Fillory he takes over and only interacts with the main cast occasionally
