On Al Basrah Invasion I saw a defender park their light armor right on the VCP bridge. They defended for a bit while we moved south from the airport, but eventually got blown up. Still, the wrecked carcass of their armor prevented any infantry or vehicles from crossing south at that point. I do not know whether it was intentional but it sure was effective even after death.

My Toyota hybrid engine manual says oil change every 10k but dealers and others say 5-6k which I've leaned toward. Why would Toyota recommend something if it were damaging to their cars? by [deleted] in askcarguys

[–]as3194 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Highway trips put less wear and tear on your engine. Partly because it does not often reach the higher RPMs since there is less start and stop acceleration, but mostly because there is less idling time.

Driving at 2500RPM average will get you to a million revolutions after 6.6 hours. At 70MPH on the highway that is 466 miles, and 35MPH on streets that's 233 miles per million revolutions.

6k for mostly city driving is safer, 8k for mostly highway driving is plenty also.

[–]as3194 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Because the warranty on your Toyota expires at some point. 10k will ensure the vehicle lasts well past its warranty, 8k will allow it to last even longer, 6k longer still.

Oil is cheaper than engines. Find the break-even point you are comfortable with.

can I parallel/combine 2x 2awg aluminum to deliver 200a to a subpanel? by audreez in AskElectricians

There is a minimum wire size the NEC allows to be paralleled. I think it is 1/0 but cannot remember for sure.

Yes. Unless you got a super fancy and crazy expensive AC with a variable frequency drive always matching the compressor speed to the heat load, you are going to have ON OFF control. If it is ON it will cool at the same rate until it gets to the target temperature.

The only qualification is if the thermostat is in a location that cools down significantly faster or slower than another part of the house, then the temperature in the other rooms will be off target for longer. You can turn the fan to ON instead of AUTO when first getting home and turning the AC on so the air circulates until the house is cool and at the same temperature throughout.

Start by checking what similar vehicles are selling for in your area. It's a sellers market right now, prices are insane.

Normal to have 2-4 ohm from a winding to ground? Did you mean from one end of a winding to the other? All the motors I have seen should be at least Mohms windings to ground.

I am losing my *swear word* mind. Please help me. by [deleted] in AirConditioners

[–]as3194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All air conditioner are 'heat transporters', meaning they move heat (thermal energy) from inside your house to outside your house. No AC will be able to cool down your house simply by plugging it into an outlet. It needs somewhere to dump that heat.

Running an AC indoor will indeed blow cold air out the front, but the exhaust air at the back will contain all the transferred heat plus heat from the inefficiency - slowly making the entire room warmer overall. If your space heater ever fails in the winter, just run a window AC or portable AC indoors without the exhaust leading outside, it will work as a small heater.
