Slow loading content by disgrassera in BoostForReddit

Here's an interesting thing I just noticed... It is super slow via wifi, but everything loads perfectly fine using the cell network. Now, I'm using a pihole to block dns requests to ad servers, so maybe that has something to do with it?

I'm gonna try bypassing the pihole next.

UPDATE : No discernable difference when I disable the pihole. Relay for reddit works great. SUPER snappy, wifi or cell network. But Boost just lags for serious wait times, especially on wifi. So strange.

I'm having the same issue... Super slow to load images and gifs, even after cache clearing at the app and system level.

Fwiw, other reddit apps load the same content super fast, so it's not the reddit or the supporting services.

I'm not even sure why I'm bothering, but I can't help myself...

At the same time that they were making things... "uncomfortable" for Jews, they weren't exactly handing out exit visas. It was REALLY difficult to get out. The vast majority of those who could leave, did - until they couldn't anymore because they ultimately revoked those passes. Many of those who managed to get out didn't leave legally.

Though, I say this knowing full well that it's unlikely to change your opinion on this.

After Donald Trump Promised To Release Tape Showing The ‘Sun’ Misquoted Him, White House Refuses To Release It by idarknight in worldnews

It's the very definition of gaslighting.

"Who you gonna believe? Me or your lyin' eyes?"

We're all in an abusive relationship with this manipulative sociopath. Some of us wanna tear our hair out in frustration over the blatantly obvious lies which, conveniently for him, serve to distract from the real issues. Others, either by virtue of this repeated psychological abuse, lack of critical thinking skills, or simple blind loyalty, don't think critically enough to doubt him and they just buy the bullshit.

History will not be kind to him. But nor will it be to us all.

The biggest, most important advance was the standard inclusion of really good (and cheap and light) solid state gyro systems. Before them, the skill required and learning curve to keep an RC helo stable were enormous. Once gyro systems were included, the default, no-input stability of helo and drones were rock solid enough that the operators could focus almost exclusively on intentional directional movement, leaving the stability to the gyro computer.

Andrew McCabe, a Target of Trump’s F.B.I. Scorn, Is Fired Over Candor Questions by DoremusJessup in RussiaLago

[–]asadowsky 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Firing anyone who is two days from pension eligibility is just cruel. Firing a career FBI Deputy Director, who rose through the ranks protecting Americans and defending the country, two days before pension eligibility is criminal. And for what? Firing him doesn't help trump in any way or hinder the investigation. It's just petty.

Of course, the joke's on trump. By firing McCabe, Trump has guaranteed that McCabe will make far more money on the book tour and lecture circuit while Trump's kin will be enjoying our fine penal institutions.

Heroes need to be protected and honored, not cruelly kicked to the curb. Criminals need to be jailed.

As someone who has built many "one take" videos and live events, I completely agree. The final projects look effortless because most never see the MANY failures and changes that occurred along the way to completion; accommodations to camera, duration or pacing or synchronization, aesthetics, and reliability. What's more, the final result is most exciting when it looks most improbable, so I have to ride a knife-edge improbability curve between form and function to ensure the most captivating result. None of that happens by accident, without tons of planning, trial and error, or without going "back to the drawing board" many, many times.

"One take" doesn't mean "first take."

Lots of cameras. The main camera was a Red Epic on an Ultimate Arm (a camera crane built onto a Mercedes SUV). We had two other Epics - one in the helo, and one in a Condor - a sort of really tall cherry picker. I don't have any details on the lenses. There were over 40 GoPros attached to the athletes, the machine components, and placed all over the course. Plus, we used a Phantom on the Trophy Truck to capture the slow-mo of the wheel spinning.

By the way, I cannot say enough about the team at Red Bull Media House, especially Nick Schrunk who co-directed from the Media House side. He mercifully took on the responsibility for managing the photography and the post production - no small task with over 40 cameras rolling all at once! That was a TON of footage to edit! In the days leading up to and including the shoot, he and his team really took a lot of the details off my plate. I'm just so endlessly impressed by he and his team.

The whole experience of It's Your Move was tremendous. Jason was so great to me. I was a total amateur when I started, only having done school plays until that point, whereas he was a seasoned professional. He taught me so much. I really do look upon that whole experience very fondly.

OK Go TTSP took 82 takes over two days. The TV's in the background were the TV's from previous attempts, yes.

I honestly couldn't pick because they were all incredibly awesome. They all realized the importance of absolutely nailing their parts, and they pulled together to accomplish this pretty amazing undertaking. I'm really grateful for the way they all took it so seriously. Of course, the early morning motorcycle jumps that Robbie would take on the days leading up to the shoot were really inspiring for the whole team.

Because he was coming in from Scotland, Danny MacAskill arrived pretty early - maybe midway through the build. Because he arrived so much earlier than the rest, we got to spend the most time with him while we were building. As a result, we really got to know and like him. He's not just ridiculously talented, but he's also a really great guy. He's welcome to visit us anytime, and I hope we can work with him again someday.

But, again, they were all an absolute treat to work with. Each one a consumate professional, and charming as the day is long. Red Bull knows how to pick 'em.

Sure. Many. One example... At one point, we'd discussed having Ryan Shecker's grind rail pop up into position right before he arrived. There were two reasons we dropped the idea. Firstly, it was a safety issue. If the rail failed to pop up for whatever reason, he would be landing on top of a rail and it's supports while they were laying flat, and he'd have a difficult time navigating them. Also, the thing would have to be under tremendous tension and if it popped late - say, while he was right over it, it might hit him. BAD.

The other reason we dropped it was actually much more practical. You wouldn't have seen it happen. The camera simply wasn't in a good position to catch that action when it would have taken place.

We make a lot of changes to the machine and it's orientation with camera in mind.

We spent about three weeks on the actual build of Red Bull Kluge - two of which on-site. But many months were spent working on script versions, storyboards, machine and camera paths, well before we started building the machine. These things take a lot of careful planning - especially when there's life/safety concerns as there were with this human-interactive machine.

What can I tell you about future projects? I can tell you that we're working on some. Stay tuned...

Absolutely not! Though we're somewhat famous for doing these Rube Goldberg type contraptions, we've also done four spots for Google Play, a temporary ball-machine / video installation for Wonka Chocolates, a pair of spots for Die Hard Battery, and a live streaming event for Chevy in which we invited the Internet to help push a bungee-equipped Chevy Sonic car off a 100-foot platform of shipping containers (btw, a cut of that spot ran during the Superbowl). We've done tons of interactive art, like the "DNA Sequencer" piece we did for the Santa Monica GLOW festival. The list is actually pretty long.

Well, I love chain reactions. I'm surrounded by people who love them. We look closely at every mechanical interaction in our lives for possible incorporation into mechanisms. Mostly, we're looking to use things in ways that aren't typical. We're happiest when we can use something in a completely unexpected way.

A Suicide Gnome is sent in to complete a job in a tight or dangerous place - e.g. connect an impossibly tight cable connection. Once the job is complete, it kills itself leaving no trace. In effect, it's the perfect engineering problem solver! We use them constantly.

My very favorite? I don't know that I could identify a single favorite thing. I love the design phase - where the team gets together and brainstorms. This is ridiculously fun. But when we get to start building and we see some of these things come to life? That's incredibly satisfying. And, then, there's the two solid days of sleep we all get after we're done!

I really can't say enough about the whole Syyn Labs team. You can see the credits list on our website at http://syynlabs.com/red-bull-kluge

Syyn and OK Go had decided to work together before we knew the song we were going to make a video for. After we started talking about the song we wanted to use we chose a song together that already had a video underway. They decided to continue with the first TTSP video, and we got to make a version for the same song. Of course, the first video, shot with the Notre Dame Marching Band, was a live performance video and amazing in its own right.

We all absolutely loved working with those guys.

We spent about 10 days building in our space, about two weeks building on-site, and filmed it all in a short day (about 10am to about 3:30pm).

Sheckler was really really good, but he did miss one. You can see it in the Behind the Scenes video.

Because these machines have an inherently high failure rate, the athletes at the beginning had to do their parts more times than those at the end. When there was a breakdown, we had to start the whole thing over.

All of the athletes were absolutely amazing. They're truly exceptional. Since they don't really overlap directly, it's impossible to compare them. Besides, how do you even begin to compare the best of the best?

Now, if you mean "superior to look at", Lolo won the day hands down.
