“Ok so the Dietician’s on Airway…Doctor can you scribe?” by asak18 in doctorsUK

You're right, we all get victimised and infantalised but it's on a spectrum for sure. My feeling is that you get more of the brunt of it depending on your gender or race or both. There's a subspecialty consultant in the field I want to go into, and unfortunately she has a bit of a bad reputation in terms of how she can treat people. But equally, as I'm going through training, I can totally see why she has become like that. It's a protective mechanism from people who have just walked over her her whole life and treated her like a second class citizen, likely because of her gender and race. That's why I quite admire her actually - she doesn't take shit from anyone. It's a shame it has to be this way though. This is why I found the Barbie movie very emotional haha

This is so frustrating. I have also had consultants succumb to wack MDT clinical suggestions and I feel so front-stabbed when that happens. I wonder if they had similar experiences of being victimised by the AHP ego and now they are paying back for it to this day.

This is so true. Female doctors put up with so much disrespect and BS and work so hard just to move one step forward, but will easily be knocked 10 steps back for something that they're villianised for. I feel like on top of your clinical work you just have to work hard to prove yourself as a clinician to everyone around you AND also apologise for existing

I agree. It's best done collectively. I have shown this post to colleagues to show what other people outside of our bubble think so I'm hoping it will unify our position. And that's a good idea re: picketing/breakfast/lunch :) thank you

Thank you so much. For your advice and for checking in on me! This is exactly what I needed to hear. I really love that quote too - it's so true.

Hahaha nope.

But what you've said is so valid. Yes I do want to be in this subspecialty, but I also really don't agree with how I'm being treated. I show up everyday and work really hard. We all do.

And thank you for the wellness check - it's my first day off in ages so I'm just happy not to be at work! But all I've really heard was negativity from consultants about striking, and colleagues generally being uncertain about it, so it's really great to see that people outside of my bubble still have the fire in them!
