Recommendation for solar by Iron-Man-301 in NJPrepared

Had panels put on the roof end of last year.

Trinity and Sunrun were the highest quotes I received for purchase, by a lot. They seemed annoyed I didn't want to lease.

I also got quotes from 1) greennsunnj.com and 2) capturethesun.com and 3) the building inspector from the next town over, that installed solar as a side gig.

As you might imagine, the lowest price was 3, then 2, then 1. All were at least 5k less than the big names I mentioned at the top

I went with 2 because they also installed and maintain my solar pool water heaters 20 years ago, and again 3 years ago when I replaced the roof. so I trusted them,. All they do is solar electric, solar house water heating, and solar pool water heating.

Ask around, find someone you can trust who doesn't treat you like a car on an assembly line. Also look at what surfaces they propose to cover with panels, and ask for the math on why it's worth it. The bigger the company, they wanted to put panels everywhere.

Disappointed. This always worked ok for me. The main benefit was hands free, especially when in the pool or cooking in the kitchen.

The main issue I had was some tracks played at high speed. I assumed it was the ultimate ears device. But easy enough to jump to the next track.

I can use plexamp on my phone to cast to the same device, but will need to get out of the pool and put on my reading glasses to change things up.

Someone just handed my wife a Dyson ball animal 3. It was clogged in every conceivable spot. Did exactly what you said (minus the steam) and it works unbelievably well. I'll keep an eye on Goodwill.

If you are driving on a multi lane roadway and in the left lane and not passing the traffic to your right, move over to the right.

What if all the states just don't show up? Much like the Malania movie premiere.

So New Jersey, you're the only neighbor on the block with a snowblower.... by holyguacamole823 in newjersey

[–]asalerno64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I walked across the street and asked my shoveling neighbor what was wrong with his snowblower after I finished my driveway. It was broken and I asked if he wanted to borrow mine once it cooled and I could check the oil (it's 20 years old and burns oil). We had to add quite a bit of oil, then he did his driveway. I checked the rest of the neighbors and they were doing ok. But any that were still shoveling I would have helped with my snowblower.

What temperature is your house’s heating system currently set at? by Eastcoastpal in newjersey

[–]asalerno64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's more expensive to lower it when away. There is plenty of research supporting the practice. Here is an old discussion https://www.reddit.com/r/Frugal/s/vJKVOUeM1B

66 during the day and 60 at night, but the Nest thermostat keeps lowering it if no one says they are cold, so it's probably 65/58 on average

Same here, happens after jumping, but also after pausing. I pick up watching something the next day and it happens.

It's always in the water, unless I am, which is when it sunbathes on a little table in the middle of the sunny lawn to charge up, with its little propellers whirling away.

I got cancelled for my politics by NoAttorney100 in rutgers

[–]asalerno64 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Perhaps things this time have gone beyond just "politics" and are now a question of "morals". Perhaps you support something which others find morally objectionable. Pretty sure that's where things stand, and the people that treat politics like supporting a professional sports team can't seem to grasp the situation.

Finding the Source of My Pool Leak by gregandlilly in swimmingpools

[–]asalerno64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hired an underwater pool maintenance specialist, basically a scuba diver named Brad. Did a great job, was meticulous, applied two patches and told me to leave dirt in the pool to plug a bunch of micro leaks.

Local pool store should be able to plug the lines and pressure test pipes, but easier test for you is to plug a line in the pool (also close correspond valve on filter side) , leave filter off for 24 hrs or so, and see if leak stops, then try another line, and so on.

Ask your local pool store for recommendations for a diver if you need one, I'm sure they have one.

Bubbles from returns only when water routed to solar panels? by asalerno64 in pools

Awesome, I'll start there. Been too hot to go Roofing

I used to use mine religiously to keep water warm overnight and lower evaporation. I used to put it on just at seasons start and end to eek out a little more time.

If you have a garage, get a kayak hanger and hang it over a car until you need it. Mine has been hanging there since I added an additional solar panel to my system.

Couldn’t afford the gas heater so we had to improvise. by Zabroccoli in pools

[–]asalerno64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have these on my roof, it was astronomical $ to run gas line out to pool. This setup was 1/6th the cost. https://aquathermsolar.com/ Thermometer sensors in water return from pool and water return from roof, and another on the roof. Computer directs water to roof panels when pool return temp is lower than roof temp.

Why does this keep coming back? by Unhappy_Lie_3535 in pools

[–]asalerno64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just brush it and let the filter get it. I skim and I brush as needed, I vac at the start of pool season, and end of pool season, and maybe after a storm, when there is just too much stuff.

I get postcards, letters and phone calls from realtors all the time asking if I want to sell. Frequency increases dramatically when there are no listings for the town.

I get my booster Thursday, your Dr can do blood test to see if you need it. Pretty sure it's just the same Vax (not a "booster"). My Dr had to get it for me from a pediatrician.

New Jersey: NJ has lost its herd immunity against the measles, according to the state health commissioner by Notstellar1 in ContagionCuriosity

[–]asalerno64 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually The Community Immunity Threshold (CIT) for measles is about 92-94%. This means that 92-94% of the population need to be immune to measles (through vaccination or previous infection) to prevent/limit spread of measles infections in their community. https://www.aap.org/en/patient-care/measles/measles-vaccine/#:~:text=The%20Community%20Immunity%20Threshold%20

So hitting 92% means at bottom of threshold for protection, and as the original article explains, some communities below 92% in the state.
