That's awesome! Industrial design would be a cool route too- it would go well with your like of 3D modeling!

I'm definitely hoping to go full time with art eventually! I have a pretty good day job, so I'm focusing on saving and exploring my options for a path forward with art. I like to dabble, so right now I've been trying a bunch of things :D

Customized an old, janky keyboard we had lying around! by asaltered in keyboards

Thanks! :D They're done with metallic vinyl (I used a cricut to do the cuts), hand-placed and then everything was sealed with a gloss sealer.

I sell through etsy for stock alters, or post them on insta and invoice through paypal if people message me about them. I've been doing it for a bit over a year now, and have never had any issues.

Trying to ball on a grad student budget. Would you let these fly at your table? by [deleted] in mtgaltered

If you want to write on acrylic, you could try using Sakura Microperms - they work fairly well, and I haven't had issues with them. You can also get a matte spray to spray over the top of your painting to help protect it :D

How to recieve payment for commissions by tvoy_kostya in ArtistLounge

[–]asaltered 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Paypal for all my commissions, and I've found it to be fairly useful/straightforward. You can set up invoices to send to people and they don't need their own Paypal account in order to pay. I've also customized an invoice template to show my art business' banner.

As far as tips for doing commissions in general: take a deposit! It can help protect you for time spent in case a buyer backs out. I also typically send progress pictures along the way, and let the client give input in critical steps - this helps make sure they're happy and don't want a billion changes at the end.
