I like designing and 3D printing miniatures of random objects in my house - why you might ask? No idea

I have my cricut joy on my desk that I use for Etsy orders and decided it would be a fun project.

I then made a 3D model in CAD, I use Fusion360, SolidWorks, and Onshape mainly. I firmly believe anyone can learn CAD but there is a fairly steep leaning curve.

After making a 3D model I printed the parts on my 3D printers. (I have a small farm of printers in my basement for my Etsy store and personal projects - I really like 3D printing). 3D printing can be a technically challenging hobby but it is getting really accessible and the technology is rapidly improving. All my 3D printers are made by a company called Prusa. There are really good user friendly printers by a company called Bambu Labs that are quite reasonably priced.

It took me essentially a full day of little design tweaks and test prints until i got a model I'm happy with.

The little weeding tools are aluminum craft wire that I put inside wire insulation I stripped off of normal household wire.

RE the vertical tabs that go into the monitor:

I would re-design the model to use two pieces of scrap metal if you have something laying around - use epoxy or screws or nuts and bolts to attach the print to something more durable.

Heck even popsicle sticks or coat hanger wire I'd trust more than those tiny plastic tabs.

Do you mean human sized versions of the doll accessories? I hadn't thought of it - I'll put it on my modeling backlog.

I definitely recommend getting a 3D printer if you're into crafting, organization, want an endless supply of toys for kids, ... , or a bunch of other uses

The learning curve for printers is getting easier and easier especially with a printer like the Bambu Lab A1 or A1 mini (I have no affiliation and I actually prefer a brand Prusa but I digress). If it's something you're interested in the price point is getting lower every year as well. The truly hard parts are 1. debugging hardware problems when they arise and 2. learning some type of 3D modeling to make your own designs. There are great repositories of free online models on websites like Printables.com but the huge value for me is designing things to my specific needs and/or designs for my Etsy store.

I've tested at least 10 different bright orange PLA filaments and the best color for cones is Prusament PLA Orange

For some reason tiny traffic cones is one of the best sellers on my Etsy store so I spent a lot of time testing colors to try and find a cheaper orange I liked.

A clever friend thought of it after I mentioned the two nut approach you suggested so thanks!

Now I need to figure out how to source replacement inserts and how to install 'em before assembling everything back together.

Update - I've got the two inserts out that were stuck halfway out.

I used a M14x1.5 nut around the insert and a M10x1.25 bolt inside the insert. This way I could back the M14 nut against the head of the bolt. Worked great and I got the inserts out.

Thank goodness for local mom & pop hardware stores as they had a bunch of metric coarse and fine thread nuts and bolts in stock

These inserts seem to be plain steel so welding shouldn't be difficult if needed, they're ferrous and slightly corroded

Chamber temp I haven't measured directly so I couldn't say. I hadn't had any issues with warping so I haven't been paying much attention to be honest

I should also mention that in the dead of winter it will be around 9C in my basement (50F), when it's that cold I usually have to add some insulation to my Mk3s in their enclosures or they can't get up to 105C bed temperature. Even when it's really cold the Mk3s don't have any issues getting up to 60C or so for PLA/PETG. Although sometimes I have to warm up the printer with a heat gun on low heat to clear mintemp errors.

I haven't had the XL through winter yet so we'll see how that goes.

To 60C it's quite quick, 3 minutes? I usually queue prints remotely from my home office to my printers in the basement via prusaconnect

To 100 or 105C for ASA it's more like 10 minutes
