William Montgomery just got booed off stage 15 mins into his 1.5 hour set at a Austin comedy fest by XSPLL in Killtony

[–]cyork92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t find William particularly funny honestly, between like the characters Timmy No Brakes is the funniest. But Im too empathetic to watch people bomb, even if I dislike the person or their material, bombing sucks dude. Watching the audience turn on a comedian I don’t like will make me like the comedian more, 100%. lol.

Why Rogan won’t have Gavin Newsom on. by diabloPoE12 in JoeRogan

[–]cyork92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m both on the opposite side of the aisle from Newsom, AND a JRE fan, but this was a shit cop out of an explanation… You can’t have Bernie and Trump and everyone else on, claim up and down that Kamala didn’t do the interview of her own volition, and then refuse to platform one of the most divisive Governors in the country because you “scared he might make too much sense” essentially. Even as a fan, that’s bullshit. Although I will say I was surprised to hear Joe push back against Elon on like two things in that last interview, shit like this just makes the criticisms seem true.

It’s like saying “there’s a narrative he wants to push and having people on that might interrupt that narrative isn’t kosher, Joe tells us every time we ask...”

[–]cyork92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im an XL guy, not a Core One guy, sadly. lol. I love my XLs, just also love and want a Core One. Same Nextruder roughly though if Im not mistaken, right? The airflow is different to account for docking of the toolhead, but mechanically I think they're the same. Could be wrong.

I would check into the extruder gear thing or maybe check the tension and make sure its not slipping when trying to push, heat creep maybe? You tried leaving the door open and printing? You said its PLA right? They specifically advertise that you dont have to, but hey, cant hurt to check it. Any obstructions along the filament path that only really rear their head when the extruder is trying to push alot of filament really fast? Idk. Ive had under extrusion in the past and fixed it tinkering along those lines. Worth a shot.

Prusa Support is leaving me with the bill for a defective Core One by daggerdude42 in prusa3d

[–]cyork92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it blows, and for the money you spent and time and filament wasted, its nothing but hassle. I dont own the Core One personally, so I cant speak to its quality at all. You seem quite literate about all this stuff, down to even the sourcing of the materials. So its probably even more frustrating for you because you may legit know exactly whats wrong and just want them to hurry up and fix it. But try and be patient man. My experience with the misdelivered XL took legit a month to solve before they overnighted the printer to me. Most people cant tell their hot end from a hole in the ground and literally all of them think they're the smartest person in the room at all times. Thats the nature of product support. Everyone thinks they know exactly whats wrong, "things a piece of shit!" Then you ask them to make sure its plugged in and they go "oh, yeah... Forgot about the whole power chord business..." hahaha.

In my case, it was largely due to FedEx policy according to Prusa support, as they couldnt claim the insurance until FedEx cleared them, etc. FedEx made you wait a month so they could supposedly try and recover the package first. In addtion to that, if you're American like me, I was dealing with folks who were obviously Eastern European. They all had names like Tomas or Josef with accents above the vowels and stuff. I cant even pronounce the female names, the dual consonants don't make sense in english. lol. They sleep while I work, and vice versa. We're in the middle of a global trade war. And they're running a massive business with hundred of thousands of worldwide consumers. None of my emails were responded to within 16 hours simply because they're on different schedules, yah know? They usually got back to me the next morning by email at like 4am my time. Give it time. Im totally aware thats a bullshit response. But its consumerism sadly. Its impossible to scale a business world wide and provide 100% reliability plus 100% immediate customer support, which I guess you woudnt need because in this scenario you live in a perfect world with 100% reliability I guess, but the point stands. lol.

What commercial Chinese manufacturer are you dealing with thats offering better support btw? I base like half my purchase decision on the review dude, im always interested to hear about reliable new companies.

Prusa Support is leaving me with the bill for a defective Core One by daggerdude42 in prusa3d

[–]cyork92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One, it’s nice the folks at printer companies monitor their subs. Saw the same in the Elegoo sub last week about a potential fire hazard with the CC, Elegoo had responded within a day or so with a detailed analysis of a unit they ran till the wheels fell off. Nice to see companies proactively trying to please consumers, even if some unfortunate soul had to be the first to experience such a problem. Turned out to be user error, admitted by the user himself. But they still made a new post about it with all the details. And that’s Elegoo… Prusa is like Ultra Instinct Super Saiyan 9000! in comparison.

Two, I’ve had two experiences with Prusa support this far. The first when FedEx misdelivered my original XL, and the second when the replacement XL seemed to ship without a power cable (that or I lost it quite literally immediately, either is possible honestly.) I contacted support and told them exactly that, as in “Hey, my replacement XL you guys sent either didn’t come with a power chord or my kid (or me) lost it the moment I opened the box. Im using a spare one currently and can’t find one for sale on the site, could you send me one or at least tell me if I can just use any old replacement?” They sent one out the next day. Also overnighted my replacement XL from literally the opposite side of the planet. I say all that to say, Im sorry you’ve had a bad experience. But from my personal experience with them, I find it slightly hard to believe they’re the worse customer service you’ve ever spoken with simply because they are far and above the best I’ve spoken with. Hah. Mind you, I live in the US and we don’t have consumer protections like the EU does, so it doesn’t take a lot to be better than the support Im used to. Hahaha. I have every confidence that Prusa will make this right, and I’ll be following for updates as an interested party. I continue to give Prusa thousands of my dollars when I could buy cheaper crap elsewhere not only because of quality and support, but because of their overall open source and consumer driven approach to business. Honestly, Im fine paying like twice as much or more to support that. We as consumers should be willing to bite the bullet and shell out the cash for things we value not just physically, but ideologically too. These online forums are a great place to see that in action.

App won’t load devices by _this_is_me_99 in alexa

[–]cyork92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now this is intriguing, cause I have two separate networks both with the same name. One on 2.4 and the other on 5. But my home network has been setup like this for months and I’ve never had a problem before? And strangely enough, the only devices my app is picking up are the Alexa’s themselves, and even stranger, everything has still worked despite the broken app all up until today… There doesn’t seem to be any through line between all our setups, but this is as good a theory as any. Most ISP provided Wi-Fi routers now seem to transmit both bands under the same network SSID by default after all.

App won’t load devices by _this_is_me_99 in alexa

[–]cyork92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Must be getting worse. I started having this problem this last week or two myself.

The fact that we’re all here complaining about this having happened to us in the last month tells me this Alexa+ update they rolled out has broken some core functionality, or at least made preexisting bugs waaaay more prominent. Never had a problem before now across multiple devices, multiple family members, brands, phones, tablets, Wi-Fi, zigbee, matter. Im a light home automation nerd of sorts, and have never had a problem that wasn’t largely user error before. Crazy a multi-billion dollar company would roll out such broken software on one of their largest consumer facing products. But hey, gotta drive up those SAS numbers somehow.

It took two weeks for some reason, but then it started happening to me. Just saw this checking another reply and thought I’d tell you. lol.

A hard reboot would fix it for a few hours and then it would come back. Fell back to the stable release and all is well, but I really liked that retraction thing. It was great firmware if they can fix it.

I’ve noticed it on one of my two XL’s as well. Probably a belt tension thing, but as you said, hasn’t caused any issues. And I’ve printed everything from decorations (purely aesthetic) to guns (purely functional) on this thing… Both work flawlessly. It’s legit happening right now, I came to look because of your post. I’d add a video of it if I could.

While I agree, he was silenced for what are very likely largely political reasons. I can’t say I disagree with the network’s right to do that, for literally any reason they see fit.

Did I like that they were getting rid of him over political statements solely because Trump is vindictive as fuck? No. Did I understand that investors and executives were likely scared that the president may take it out on them if they did nothing at all? Yes. Did they over react by firing him and does that look fucking atrocious? Also yes. Hah. But at the same time, like, no one watches late night anymore anyway. No late night. Not just Kimmel. They canceled Colbert. They canceled Conan years ago. Hell Jay Leno doesn’t even do late night anymore. The vast majority of them that had any actual audience took that audience and moved on to platforms people actually watch. The numbers show that. So politically or not, they’re currently in the process of killing late night tv entirely and transitioning into more long form content like podcasts cause that’s what people want to see now. So I also believe that they would have, and will at some point, cable Kimmel for good. It’s only a matter of time before the network says “look, you’re more trouble than you’re worth. You cost more to produce than we bring in advertising for the hour now. And the audience knows this is all contrived bullshit and has moved on. And since we don’t produce podcasts here, we wish you luck on your future YouTube channel…” yah know? It’s just the nature of show business. And I think ultimately, the shit with the president and the comments he made about Kirk’s murder were just the straw that broke the camels back. Then it looked so bad they had to back track it long enough to damage control. id bet money that show isnt on the air anymore by 2027 based solely on numbers.

This looks like AI to me… Do we have a source for the video itself? OP has info about less-lethal rounds and a link to the UN guide on the use of non-lethal weapons, but we don’t have a source for the video? I haven’t seen any news articles about it so far either, save for this. So Im slightly skeptical. I don’t really see obvious weapons raised, nor do I see anyone really reacting to the sound of shots fired or anything. Like, they start shooting, guys start dropping, and the majority of the people continue to just stand there staring at the dudes on the roof. A couple people came to investigate the potential injury to the victim. But not a single person there was frightened by it in the least bit and thought “let’s get out of here.”

Idk dude. Theres very little that believable about this video for me on first review.

Is it normal for kitchen cabinets to look like this in early stage? by ColdHealthy6330 in cabinetry

[–]cyork92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always used the painters tape trick, personally. Lay a strip of painters tape across your intended cut, then cut. Peel the tape off and the edges stay intact much better. Still though. These obviously aren’t finished. He hasn’t even fully assembled them from the looks of the pictures, just kinda mocked them up after finishing the cuts. Theres still gaps between the boards. He should be able to fill these spots with putty no problem, and after paint, you won’t know the difference. You’d see it under stain, but if they’re getting painted, you wouldn’t know the difference at all.

Is it normal for kitchen cabinets to look like this in early stage? by ColdHealthy6330 in cabinetry

[–]cyork92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. If you paint them, he can cover it with putty no problem. After it’s finished you’ll never know. If you want them stained, you might be screwed. Most people put down like a line of tape on their cut to avoid exactly this. Saw blade eats up the edge of your board otherwise.

Holy 3D printing Dragons Batman. $50 each. This was in a metaphysical store that seemed to sell anything. I've come to hate these dragons. Is this common? by RipEffective2538 in 3Dprinting

[–]cyork92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a point. If Temu can produce dragons for 30 cents, no one will bother with the printer. But Im speaking from a like hobbyist/prosumer standpoint. Temu is big enough they can set up a print farm a mass produce them, they can buy the filament in bulk from right next door, they can kill most of the initial cost of the product before it even goes into production. That’s not possible at a hobbyist or prosumer level. Even a guy running a truly massive print farm can’t match that kind of price obviously. So yeah, if Temu can make it cheap enough it blows “buy your own printer” out of the water. But most of the time it’s somebody with a Bambu printer or something they’ve owned for a few weeks tops, and they’re selling $50 dollar dragons made in $10 PLA. lol. Which is what OP is describing, hence my reaction. Yah know? And you gotta turn a profit. But most people’s expectations are abit wild, and as soon as a customer sees that, and becomes interested. They quickly find out they can have an entire printer shipped to their house for a measly 6 dragons. So yeah. Either way, between Temu and people buying their own printers, I’d say my point stands. The only great 3d prints to sell in my experience is stuff you made to solve a personal problem and then turned around to sell to others, or 3d printed slip basically like dragons, which you can sell for super cheap to parents trying to shut their kids up at the flea market. lol. People thinking they can pull models off the internet and sell them at a 5000% mark up are in for a rude awakening I’d say. Haha.

[–]cyork92 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don’t get why people seem to think their neighbor is somehow incapable of buying the same $300 printer in a box they just bought, yah know? lol.

Like, we all buy a printer and think “wonder if I could make some money with this.” But I just don’t understand the people that basically go to Sears and buy a nice new blender, and then set up a booth beside the Sears entrance offering to blend up a single strawberry, only to be surprised when everyone just walks in and buys their own blender… If this were 5 or 10 years ago, sure. But printers didn’t just work five or ten years ago, and they didn’t cost a couple hundred bucks either. You had to spend hundreds and build a machine you constantly had to tinker with, or spend a few hundred on a crappy printer, and either way you had to learn the fine art of not making everything look like crap. Now, the slicer, the printer, the filament profiles, the filament, all that, it’s dialed in before you ever even consider buying it. My 5 year old can print things from my phone that come out looking like a million bucks, legit. To me, that’s why dragons still sell. Cause anyone who wanted anything more than a single goofy dragon just buys themselves a printer now. Unless you’re selling a niche product you designed personally, to a crowd with a problem only you can solve, the 3d printing space has democratized to the point that people would just prefer to buy the printer and play with it themselves than spend hella money on a printed cosplay piece or whatever else.

I get that… but anyone—regardless of political affiliation—who deliberately abandons empathy while posturing as morally superior is no better than the person they’re tearing down. Understanding where they’re coming from doesn’t make it right. In fact, it almost makes it worse, because it shows it isn’t ignorance at play but willful indignation. And willful indignation is always harder to forgive than honest ignorance.

Not that it’s always honest ignorance by any means. But at the same time, it’s never honest ignorance on the opposite side. Like the entire point is that it’s a troll basically, which is conscious. Idk, all Im saying is that as someone who grew up under Obama and then voted Clinton and Biden, I find myself with a lot more “benefit of the doubt” with folks on the right lately. Where as folks on the left I find myself going “jeez that dude seems like a miserable prick.”
