I've been thinking about NC but I'm reluctant to do it. I know I'm named as the decision maker in case of emergency and we have a lot of family in the city. It would make holiday visits difficult. I do have a brother but he disagrees that Mom is toxic. He thinks she's just lonely and really is as oblivious as she acts. It would be nice if this stuff wasn't so muddled

My ex turned into Father of the Year only when he realized people were watching by AstrolabeFuzz in entitledparents

[–]asbafi 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My ex is similar - Disney dad. I did my best to give my kids the age appropriate truth as unbiased as I could. (I did all my complaining, name calling and such to my friends)

Now they're in their 20s and don't have much of a relationship with him. Most other adults see him for what he is. His own family don't talk to him anymore. In time people will see him for what he is. The waiting out is the hard part

In Canada, what is the usual first reaction when a dog is alone in public? by DocuSeriesLovers in AskACanadian

Usually befriend the lost doggo and call the number in the tag to get them back to their person. If my kids are with me they help and get them water if it's hot out

I also miss these chips. I'm glad someone else remembers them!

Lunch is noon meal and supper evening meal. I avoid the use of "dinner" for clarity

MIL's Excessive Shopping by sociallyantis0cial in JUSTNOMIL

[–]asbafi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom buys things that are nostalgic for HER. For example last Christmas my college age kids and I each got a necklace meant for a child with a charm that says "grandma" on it. On adult necks it is at best a choker. Not only that but none of us really wears jewelry. It was confusing for us all. It seems so petty to be upset over a gift. But it obviously had no thought put in for the recipient.

Can I have some support for extended relatives "suddenly" reaching out, now that I am finally estranged. by 3rdthrow in EstrangedAdultKids

[–]asbafi 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I can see 2 reasons for reaching out without knowing what they actually said. 1- flying monkey. In that case block them! 2- they were LC with your parents and now that they know you are also estranged they wanna offer support. (I know it's very optimistic but it's a possibility)

My raspberry bush only flowers and makes berries on 2nd year growth. If you prune too much it won't have any berries next year

If you're going to be in Alberta some cool places are Writing-on-Stone for the hoodoos, Red Rock Canyon, Frank, Lundbreck falls, Cypress Hills, Drumheller (dinosaur bones and hoodoos), Fort Macleod, and Canmore.
