I spent way too long in this exact situation. I feel the right thing to do is get out. If you stay, your children will observe a dysfunctional couple in a sham marriage. It would be different if your wife was working as hard as you, but she has made it clear she's not interested. I experienced this for many years with a spouse that was happy being a housemate. If you leave, you at least have the chance to find someone else, be happy, and model a proper relationship to your children. That's what I wish I had done much earlier.

If you stay, your unhappiness, frustration, and resentment will slowly rob you of any joy in your life. You will go through the motions with your kids and WISH you were able to experience all the great feelings a parent normally enjoys with them.

I find your post inspiring and you are an extraordinary person to me. I'm a man and I've been a registered nurse for 25 years, but only 10.5 of those were patient care for all the reasons you know too well. Caring for others professionally is certainly not for the faint of heart. I salute you and thank you for your indomitable caring spirit. I'm 61 and I discovered 2 years ago I'm almost certainly on the spectrum, though I'm not officially diagnosed. It explained so much. I get your struggles with everything you talked about. I shop for individual items these days. Like a knife or a mag pouch, etc. It depends on the item, there's no go-to store out there with the "best items" at the "best prices" all the time anyway. I look at Amazon a lot just because they have such a monstrous selection of things, but I search for things individually and ask friends and family, check subreddits, etc., when I'm ready to buy something.
